Nicknames for all current F1 Drivers
I'll do my best as Im completely bored and have nothing to do. I've noticed in a few threads discussions about Driver's Nicknames that can be used on our great Forum. Here goes;
Michael Schumacher - TGF (Great One Liz) Rubens Barrichello - Rubinho Mika Hakkinen - The Flying Finn David Coulthard - Sqaure Jaw, Boxhead etc,etc Ralf Schumacher - GFB (German Fellow's Brother) Juan Pablo Montoya - JPM Giancarlo Fisichella - Fisi Jenson Button - Bunsen Jaques Villeneuve - JV Olivier Panis - (This one has got me stumped) Heinz-Harold Frentzen - HHF Jarno Trulli - (Stumped again) Eddie Irvine - The swerve Pedro De La Rosa - DLR Nick Heidfeld - TGFH (That German Fellow's Heir to the throne) Kimi Raikkonen - Kimi (I dont know to be honest) Jos Verstappen - The Boss Enrique Bernoldi - The Bull Jean Alesi - Crazy Jean Luciano Burti - Lucky Luciano Fernando Alonso - Many people having been using the word "GOD" for this young fellow! Everytime I hear his name I get that awful ABBA song stuck in my head, so ABBA it is. Tarso Marques - Does anyone really care? |

I like PDLR for De La Rosa, and "The Boss" is Springsteen, Jos is "Lyle". Liz called Button "Button Spice" last year-I laughed every time I read it. I really don't go for the variants for Coulthard, DC works for me.(It rcalls the old Comic Book Publisher and Washington, DC.) |

For Mika, there has been several suggestions, CM (Cranky Mika), SYW (Speak Your Weight) and The Crying Finn are those I can remember at the moment.
How about just calling DC "Jaws"? I have to agree with EERO considering Jos - he's certainly not "The Boss" - that's Springsteen! But "Lyle"?? What does that nickname mean? For Button I liked the nick "Jettin' Bunsen"! Can't remember who invented it though - please step forward! Doesn't Moffat call HHF "Heinz 457 Varieties"? I don't see some of the other suggestions (like GFB, TGFH or ABBA) sticking though. Besides, I used to have a teacher who we called ABBA, so "Saint Fernando" will do for me, thanks! We did have some nickname for Trulli, but I can't remember it. He could be TIF, I suppose. That's not hard to remember.
Button Spice will do for me, although Bunsen (invented by Murray Walker) is also cool. As far as Panis goes, isn't it hilarious how the Speedvision guys go to excruciating lengths to keep from mispronouncing Olivier's name? Why don't they just say Olivier? Or Livvie? I think I'll refer to Jacques as "Zippy", both because of his speed and because of his Zipmobile. Too many JVs. |

I happen to think that in certain photos, Jos Verstappen looks like Lyle Lovett's long lost brother. Last edited by EERO; 5 May 2001 at 22:56. |

Had to chuckle when someone was going on about "Pedro of the Pink".
Had me reminded of Steve Buscemi "Why do I have to be Mr Pink..." To broaden the topic a bit, anyone remember who all of these were...? The Monza Gorilla The Shunt The Tube Little Leaf Big John Il Leone The Sao Paulo Taxi Driver Lole The Farnham Flyer Chopper Chunky (I'll be impressed if anyone figures out "Chopper". He was in F1, but not as a driver - and no, it's not what you think..." |

Well "The Monza Gorilla" of course was Brambilla - I have a picture of his car before it hit the Armco as he came across the line.
Il Leone was Our Nige, I think, when he drove for Ferrari. And "Hunt the Shunt" was our Mr. James. Lole I'm not sure about, but I think that was Carlos Reutermann. I can't remember why. And I know that Piquet called Senna a Sao Paolo Taxi Driver, but I don't think that nickname was his. The others I have no clue. P.S. Pedro of the Pink? He'll have to be: PINKY! ("We're Pinky and the Brain...") |

Pedro De La Rosa's nickname is apparently 'Norman'.
Apparently he got it when racing in Spanish Formula 3 and The Open Telifonica Series as he used to wear a cap that made him look a bit like Norman Wisdom... Therefore he got the nickname. I think Norman suits him...hehe Last edited by Ferrari Girl; 7 May 2001 at 17:12. |

We've had an F1 drivers' nicknames discussion on another forum, and one person came up with "Jargon Trolley" for Jarno Trulli because that's what his name is when it goes through a spell checker.

DJB- Robert2000 got all of his answers correct. As for Argentinian theme, there was a trio- Fangio, Gonzalez and Marimon.
