Stido, Rusty's going well so far... I guess people recognise a gritty racer when they see one. Having the best car doesn't always mean you win races...

Bright is just as gritty, if not more so. It's just he doesn't come out and say, "Oh, I'm the Enforcer!"

Ingall may appear more gritty because he hits more stuff.

Ok that's valid but Bright doesn't have a media persona (you know, like the guy who wears the black hat) like Ingall does. I see so many similarities between Ingall and Allan Grice in the group c days. Maybe Bright should come out and say "oh, I'm the guy who gets whipped by Skaife, and by the way, I need a nickname".

Well, maybe Ingall should change his to "I'm the guy who gets whipped by Steven Richards."

"Who?"

*laughing at mac*

I reckon Jason Bright is awesome. Perfect replacement for Craig Lowndes' departure to Ford...

Steven Richards IS whipping Ingall this year. Ingall is leaving at the end of the year and is looking for greener pastures. There is no doubt things have soured between him and Perkins, no doubt over the pitlane entrance crash at Bathurst last year. That cost the Castrol team possibly the race win. Also Ingall has been there too long, and things have gone stale. Skaife IS whipping Bright and has done for two years, and what's more embarassing is that it's the best car and there's no two ways about it. Richards, well he's good but he's practically invisible-just check out the voting in the poll on favourite drivers. Shame really... When it comes to big balls driving, Ingall is it. Lakeside'97,'98 are just two moments, and he's never had the best car, ever.

Hrmm, I think it goes a bit deeper than the Bathurst Larry stack. From what Russell kept saying a while back, he'll be going where the money is...

If it wasn't for a busted gear lever and a blown engine in race 3, Bright would have won the round on Sunday. That's the way it's been this year. If there's been any bad luck goin round the HRT garage, it's been channelled to Jason.

Brighty is always given the new HRT car aswell. And as with all new race cars (even if it is built by HRT), there is always bugs and development issues that have to be sorted out. Skaife has the same car all season - that provides stability.

Good point Troy, i have often wondered why there is such a difference as in the past Bright has been a serious competitor up the pointy end.

Are you sure about the Bright always getting the new car Troy? I'm sure they take turns in getting a new car.

As I remember it Bright got a new one for Eastern Creek 2001 (which was a peice of ****) then Skaife got a new one for the Queensland 500 2001 (or it could have been Bathurst) Then the next new car went to Bright for Winton 2002.

By the way Mattracer Brights got a nickname... Brighty

Yeah, I think it alternates, but there aint much wrong with their new cars... especially with the "revolution rather than evolution" attitude

No, Bright pretty much always gets the new one, until the bugs are sorted, then it goes to Mark, just in time for Bright to get another newie.

I bet all the problems that Bright had with the new car last year could've been sorted by Skaife in a flash, apparently he had some trouble adapting the car to his driving style...

I bet it would have too. Especially considering Bright was new to the team and had just spent a season racing a high level open-wheeler class in America.

Lowndes really struggled back in '98 after a season in top level opeenwheelers, didn't he? Yep, so much so he won the championship.....That's not a valid excuse for Bright. A good driver can adapt to a given car in a short time, just look at Jimmy Richards.

You would think that in 2001 a driver 'apparently' as capable as Bright would've been able to put the equal best car in the field up higher than the teens. Often the bloke qualified the thing down in 10th - 15th, unheard of for a HRT car. It says alot about Bright's ability as a driver to adapt his driving style to a specific car, when the team doesn't revolve around him (as it did at SBR) he struggles. Proof this year of him not being able to keep up with Skaifey.

Does anyone else think Brighty would be a better a better open wheel driver than a tin top driver?

Certainly. As mentioned previously, he likes a very stiff, almost nervous car, that reacts quickly. Look how well he adapted to the Champ Car. At his first test at Firebird, he was quicker than Junqueira and Minassian in their first Ganassi tests.

Yes, Bright would be a better open wheel driver than a tin top driver. And all these comments reveal that Bright is good but not as quick or consistent as Skaife. Here we go again.

While the Monaro may be legit under the rules, perhaps one should consider whether or not Holden exploited the grey areas in order to achieve an unfair advantage over the rest of the competitors.

What's the point of getting an unfair advantage when the parity police are on duty?
