Women in motorsport (was F.Woman)
Ok - Its back. Formula Woman the TV show starts on Sunday after the GP on ITV. Will be well worth watching - even if its just to see national racing on TV for once!
However I'm going to keep a very strict line on this thread... I'm not saying you can't express your opinion (please do - we are here to discuss and debate) but anything that could cause problems will be pulled so use common sense! |

At Cadwell last weekend, FW were there and tested on the saturday..... but the women hardly drove, their engineers (male) seemed to have the majority of the track time out in the RX8's. As for the racing, that was a real eye opener.

In what way was it an "eye-opener"? Good or bad?

So the engineers where setting the cars up for them, then going out to try it themselves?

As to whether I meant good or bad when I said 'eye opener', I'll let you guess as I dont want to be blamed for closing yet another FW thread closed. At least they were trying, i'll give them that. Just amazed how much money has gone into it. Not sure if Mazda will actually sell any RX8's off the back of it though. |

I suppose the series is going to get a lot of stick. Most of the girls are novices and don't have the years of karting experience where they learn how to overtake properly etc.
As for the cost, it must be cheaper than what several hours of TV coverage would be if it were adverts, then again the RX8 is oversubscribed anyway |

The whole point of the series is to bring through newcomers - so it's hardly fair to criticise them for appearing inexperienced.

You are cynical.
It's a privately organised championship, rather than a manufacturers one, as far as I know. |

The whole point of the series is to make the organiser a nice pot of moey to help fund his son's racing career.

Let's hope that the racing is clean, unlike 'Racing Rivals' and sets a good example to all new racing drivers at all levels of motorsport. Maybe if this is a good ratings success it may prove to be the start of televising all forms of motorsport.....excellent racing such as FFord local championships!

That's a very good point Tiptop. Any coverage of the lower levels of motorsport on national TV should help with the drive to getting for people to the circuits, whether as drivers or spectators!

Rob29, if Jodie Hemmings' plans for next year come about, & from what I know it looks like they will, she'll be Formula SuperWoman. Wait & see!!

We may or may not approve of the motives behind projects like this, I'm have my reservations, it's not fair to dissallow previous license holders who have shown the commitment but for whatever reason not been able to continue racing... but I'll bet it makes good television.

The reason for any manufacturer going racing is to ultimately sell cars - nobody does it just for the fun of it. Some get more out of it than others. It depends how clever they are at using motorsport for their marketing purposes. As for the driving standards - didn't I read a letter in MN recently from one contestant who claimed she was a better driver but didn't have the right background/looks so missed out on selection? The reason I hear it was postponed was because the drivers needed more time to get up to speed ... |
