Rossi Can Be Beaten - Alex Wins!!!
Fantastic race in Motegi this afternoon. Barros takes a deserved first victory of the season on his first ride on the Honda RC211V, just edging Rossi, although in my opinion Barros would have won despite any problems affecting Rossi. Barros was fast, smooth and consistent all race while at times Rossi did look a touch ragged.
Disappointment for Kato, who would have been able to mix it with the front two, but Capirossi was simply sensational in finishing third on the old two-stroke. The 250s provided their best race of the year and Toni Elias was brave in his final corner overtaking move on Melandri, but a deserved victory nonetheless, while Marco has all but wrapped up the title as Nieto just couldn't keep up. Pedrosa dominated the 125s all weekend and never looked like losing, but Poggiali was given a reprieve with Vincent having major mechanical problems and now only 8 points separate the top two and the title is more open that ever. |

Well I was really hoping this would be Daijiro Kato day, but a Barros win will suffice. Hopefully the remaining races will all be this good. Did you catch the Kawasaki rider's crash? Hope he's alright after that one!

I heard Rossi was ill this weekend?! A 100% well Rossi would have won IMO.
Well done to Barros though! |

It looked like Yanagawa may have broken his right hip or his right leg, as he was clutching at the area. I hope I'm wrong and we'll see him in Malaysia. If he's unwell to return, wonder who'll they put on the bike instead.

That move by Elias would get my vote for pass of the season, and I reckon the 250 race was better than the big boys, and much as I like Rossi it was god to see Barros beat him, pity it was on a diesel though!

Well over the years I have put all manner of Shyyte on A Barros. A guy I thought was only in it because of his country of birth. But, I gotta hand it to him. I was on the edge of my seat rooting for him.
Mind you, if there's rooting involved I'd cheer for anybody these days! |

Barros was good wasnt he? One thing the commentators were talking about was Barros and the old 80cc world championship bikes - just how long has he been around? didnt they get phased out in the mid 1980s?

It was fun to see, how smoothly Barros was driving that 4-stroke Honda - No trace of Rossi's sideways-almost-every-braking antiques. Learnings of the Endurance racing, maybe?

Warwick, thanks for that - I guess the various Nieto progeny have links with 80cc racing, but did Barros actually race 80cc's?

Barros did race 80cc's
I think he clocked up 200 gp races this year. Most other motogp riders are just over the 100 races mark. I can remember that Barros rode a 500cc Cagiva (as teammate to Eddie Lawson) back in 1991, And I dont even think that was his first year in 500's |

He's around 34 probably, but he's riding the best he ever has. Ever since he joined Honda Pons he has been consistently consistent. Pity he hasn't done this his entire career, otherwise he could have at least a few more wins under his belt.
