I know it's a new cliche, but it depends on how many stops h's making. If he's one-stopping, it could go right for him, but if the conditions are variable he'll be disadvantaged. Either way he'll be stuck right down the order in the early stages, and will be hoping for atrition among the midfield runners to help him get close to DC, Kimi, Montoya and co after they make their second stops.

If he's two-stopping, he's stuffed. Quite clearly, he would be too slow, his confidence will be shattered, and there's no way he could make up many positions. A non-points finish would be quite feasible.

John Watson may have won a race in 1982 from 17th on the grid (and one the next year from 22nd), and Mansell and Prost both won races after qualifying outside teh top 10 in dry qualifying sessions, but this is a different situation. Watson had a chance to work on the car setup in between qualifying and race, and could run light so as to overtake people, in a car which was by then faster - Prost and Mansell did much the same thing in their respective races.

As it stood in qualifying, the car was slow. And it'll be slow tomorrow. If the cards fall right, a podium might be possible, but I can see him ending up in the hedge after losing his cool totally.

I have him for sixth, and I believe I will stick with that. Shocking performance though. Anyone gone to dig up when he last did so badly?

Ralf wasn't that exactly on top in Australia!
And last year he won the race!

Why so limited in the choices. It would be quiet the gamble to predict a top 3 finish, even if he qualifyed 8th.

Valve Bounce has been held in scrutiny for further testing
An early departure from the track will mean the lack of pace question will not be resolved today.

Out early. He will explain that he felt it necessary to save his engine ... for some race in which his teammate is excluded.

He did get some points, but he hardly looked fast!!!!!!

If Montoya had not lost a wing, he would have given a run at Kimi. He started on the same row as Kimi!

Yeah, and Nick Heidfeld would have won since he started ahead of Kimi, right?

Well, at elast 6 out of 30 guessed right.

Montoya would've challenged for the win. Heidfeld lost out because of the pitstop problem, and just wasn't fast throughout the race. We don't know how well Montoya could've done, but he was on the right strategy (the same one as Ralf, which makes that 'effort' in qualifying look even worse, he lapped quickly throughout too. Secod year in a row that Michael Schumacher has scuppered his race in Malaysia.

Not necessarily. Williams probably fueled him up when he came in to replace the rear wing.

yeh a bit jammy really, considering DC retired, as did Panis. JV didn't even start, JPM was run into. TGF decided that driving into the side of trulli was a good idea (is/will he start to lose it in terms of crowns and slipping?). All of these cars would have finished ahead of ralf if they hadn't had their respective dillemas.
