Effect on Coil rate of inclined Shocks
Hi all,
Trying to calculate the spring rate i need for my car and wondering how, what formula is used to take into consideredation the inclination angle of the shock/ damper? Thanks in advance Regards Ross |

If you know the wheel rate (WR) you want and the angle of the damper from vertical (A), required spring rate (SR) can be calculated as follows:
SR = WR / (cosine(A))^2 e.g. if A = 30 degrees and WR=100lb/in SR = 100 / (COS(30))^2 therefore: SR = 100 / (0.866025)^2 so: SR = 100 / 0.75 which gives: SR = 133.33lbs |
