Tony George claims he is not out to kill CART
“I’m not out to put CART out of business. That’s something people assume. I’m just interested in building the IRL.” http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=09967716 |

Rubbish.
1991. CART races in Australia. George complains series is losing its heritage. 1996. George founds 'all american' and 'all oval' IRL. 2003. IRL races in Japan. Honda and Toyota join series. One US driver in top five at opening race. This is a man who does not always tell the truth |

It seemed to me that Tony George kept saying that he wasn't out to kill CART and then an example would point out just exactly what he had done or said in the past that contradicted that statement. You can't trust that.

Any five-year plan he may have ends with him becoming Pope. He's spouting off about taking Milwaukee away. Yeah, okay Tony, whatever. Is that before or after he buys Rockingham and EuroSpeedway? Then he says he's gonna take over Long Beach and bring F1 with him. After that comes Road America. And a spin-off series running European ovals. Let's not forget the IRL-spec cars running American road courses. Of course, these ones will have fenders.
I think that what he's doing here is reading from his "Dear Santa" letter. Sadly biased reporting, to say the least. |

TG also claims he has evidence on who really shot JFK, proof that the moon landing was fake and that the Berlin Wall hasn't really come down.
Anyone who believes a word that comes out of his mouth is gullible. |

So if he's not out to kill CART, why does he "bring [his] hammer to work every day"? Seems to me that he may be using it to hit himself in the head.
I think this man should have his own show. He's a lot funnier than most of the prime time comedy currently running as "reality". |

He's always been out to kill cart, but now he's backpeddeling because [B]he knows he can't do it!!![B]
Bad management has done far more damage to the series than TG ever did, Heitzler nearly killed it, and Bernie could still come in to finish it off. |

In truth, Joe Heitzler did more to kill CART than Tony George. It was only after his farcical year in charge that Toyota, Marlboro, Honda and all the rest decided to switch. Now that he has a strong series, an All-American, all-oval series for youngsters to get into is no longer the strategy. $ for George is the strategy. And looking at the packed grandstands at Homestead, mission accomplished. </sarcasm>

Isn't this the same guy that was wandering around the paddock joking about coffin nails as teams defected to the IRL just last year?
What a snake. Mike |

The only time we should mention TG's name is when something bad happens to the IRL. Then we (CART Fans) can start hammering the nails in the IRL's coffin. Hopefully as soon as possible.

Below's a link to a guy who's documented CART/USAC/IRL trouble 1989-1996. He cracks me up he's so pro Cart, but for a history lesson on the subject take a look.

Tony George is a very good man. You just don't see his plan. He created a supposedly rival series so that he bankrupts it so CART remains the prevailing series. It's as simple as that.

You have to wonder about a CEO running a multi-million dollar business without a plan. Don't you?
I think the appropriate cliche' is "Easy Come, Easy Go" Go Tony Go!!!!!! |

The old people say "From Shirt Sleeves to Shirt Sleeves in Three Generations." That means: if your father inherited his money, you will become a bankrupt by the end of your lifetime." TG is just interested in spending money and since he has no idea how his grandfather earned it, he has no idea how to make a plan to grow it.
The only thing we have to do about him is keep an eye on him so he doesn't get into our yard before he goes broke, and then chuckle quietly and say "No, you'll have to buy a ticket just like everyone else. We'll put you on our waiting list." |

Indy 500 facing its shortest entry list of modern era
Robert Clarke, the general manager of Honda Performance Development, is skeptical the IRL can deliver more than 33 this year. Members of his group met with league officials, including Barnhart and Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Tony George, last weekend to discuss the issue.
"We don't see them," Clarke said of competitors. "And our fear is that the league is going to say we've got to supply engines for this guy and this guy at the last minute. We're not prepared for that." The engine manufacturers are required to sell or lease engines to anyone within 90 days of each league event. But the deadline for the May 25 Indy 500 passed last month. All three manufacturers can deny clients now. There is only so much expansion the 13 current teams can incur, and interest from CART teams has been negligible. |

As-de-mim, Jim Rockford move over.
You're da man. Tragic news. I'll get onto Tony now and see if he can tee it up with Chris P to allow Champcars to fill in the blanks spots. since they're a bit short on their Indy car count. |

Barnhart expects to see a second car each from Team Rahal and Fernandez Racing. But Bobby Rahal said this week "nothing is in the works" with his team. Adrian Fernandez has logistical problems.
The news just keeps getting worse. Last edited by ¡As-de-mim!; 7 Mar 2003 at 06:28. |

Chevy says they could have 10, Honda says 7, Toyota says 12
Officials at Chevrolet have admitted a horsepower disadvantage and are focusing on power development. Program manager Joe Negri doesn't want to move beyond the six teams (seven cars) using his engines. What if you had a bump day and no one showed up? Last edited by ¡As-de-mim!; 7 Mar 2003 at 09:06. |

Time for Rahal and Fernandez to "step up to the plate" and not step up to the plate. Walk the walk, Adrian.

I think any Champ Car guy who drives in the IRL 500 this year should have one of those great stickers that says PAUL TRACY: THE REAL WINNER OF THE 2002 INDY 500 prominently displayed on his car or his driving suit.
