My Tracks Challenge #4... Darnoc

I'm bored !!!...

OK, here's the deal, and PLEASE follow this carefully...

The small town of Darnoc was the one of the first ports in Australia's (*cough* LIE *cough*), and has very steadily grown. However, due to the huge new ports being built on the Eastern Coast, Darnoc's port is not needed, and thus was up for sale. Now, Mr. Darnoc (a distant relative from one of the first white people in Australia (*cough* LIE *cough*)) has bought the land and wishes to create a short circuit...

All of the maroon land is the old port, and you can do what you wish with it, EXCEPT, you cannot build on the water, however, you can dig down and create more water...

All the yellow are the borders for the locals farms/residences in Darnoc. You can 'buy' these for the number of credits that they are worth. You have a maximum of 25 credits. However, of course, you don't have to do this. Those in an Aqua colour, you cannot buy for various reasons...

The are no restrictions on the circuit, you are the designer, and you can do what you wish, the only must is that the pits must be at least 500m long...

EDIT: ohh yea, umm, access to all houses much be maintained somehow, and you cannot get too close to the freeways...

As someone once said... "Go forth and procreate"... Good luck all ...

...also (see how bloody forgetful I am ), you can use existing roads, as this circuit doesn't HAVE to be a premanent circuit, however, it is prefered...

yep yep... thats the 'basic' layout that I thought everyone would do ...

Good to see you've used some of the existing roads, both for the circuit and access to the circuit, and also you didn't use any homes, which is a good thing in a way...

My track (which I'll post much later) will be more destructive ...

Keep'em coming aye???...

After an initial survey of the site my engineers could come up with no evidence of any underground tunnels... They were also of the opinion that any new tunnels created would be at serious risk of flooding. So as a designer I was pretty much lost!

Obviously this would not be a good thing... unless we could arrange F1 submarine races. Nuclear powered subs would be banned for obvious reasons! (one of which being a certain boycotting by a group thought to be led by ASCIIman :P)

Thus I set my engineers the task of taking to the SKY! Strict rules imposed by the government to save the breeding grounds of the underwater "Hare Slug" denied us any possibility of planting any pylons into the ocean. Floating buoys were also ruled out due to bad weather and strong sea currents.

Thus we liaised with some engineers at the Wembley stadium and were able to perfect a construction technique that allows you to build a great BIG arch and lay it almost on its side.... On top this arch we then laid a road and allowed us to make a nice oval racing circuit by doing the same at the opposite end as well. Because of this layout the pits for the oval is curved and cuts underneath the road circuit. The parts of the track which are in the air are denoted by the thinner white line.

The high-speed road circuit uses part of the oval and will "fly" out to sea and uses the pits which runs down the main straight. (yeah its boring I know) but the aussies just LOVE it

The arches are quite steeply banked and this allows quite superb viewing from the central pier in the infield.

Parking is provided and access to the main site is left as is. Being an ex-port the roads are suitably wide enough. The shorter pier is still in use and a ferry service will run on race weekend. Race teams can also charter a car ferry to get there equipment to the circuit.

Both tracks run clockwise.

Dudes, I got started on my version of the challenge last night. I must say it looks pretty good for my first track in at least ten weeks. I'll post something tonight.

Here is my go. I appear to be the first who had to buy property. I bought two a 2 credits each for a total of four. It is mostly a street circuit, with a couple of permanent pieces (including the piece of track where I bought property). I built a long track, which if deemed too long, can be replaced by the track that includes the red line. If the short circuit must be used, it has two variants. It can along the water, or it can wrap around the reflecting pool (or lake, whichever), much like the long track would.

The reflecting pool was made by building a creek from the water. It is stated that I am not allowed to build on the water, but the water is not touched at all. I built over the water, and since the creek is narrow enough that the bridge over it can support itself without any pillars in the water. Also, I placed three fountains in the reflecting pool, which shoot off water 24/7, even during a race. The reflecting pool is to give the locals and tourists something to visit all year round, and with the building of restaurants and shops, the port can be a year round tourist attraction and money maker for the twon of Darnoc.

OK, here's my go at the challenge. I'm very happy with it. I took some time to do the graphics, too.

I'll post a track-only picture in a minute

I really like turn 1, I must say. However, I would have like to lengthen the main straight, but there's not enough room for that.

The good thing about T5 is that cars take it slower, now, and can go trough it closer towards the car in front of them without being bothered by dirty air. That way they can slipstream across the straight and out-break for T6.

Well, you always tend to have at least a couple of 90-degree'ish corners, you like to use the snail, and your esses are also very distinctly lustig'ish. Just the overall composion of the track, makes it clear, that it's a Lustig .

Yup, the hairpin-esses combo and the 'snail' are a dead give-away.
One thing I would do is make turn 6 much, much smoother, because at the moment you've not got a long enough straight to facilitate passing into that hairpin. Your s/f straight is only about 550-600m.

Hmm... that's a nice thought, CG. Why don't you make a new thread about that and try to include as many names as you can come up with. Then all of us post three names -- best designer, second-best, third-best -- and we can't vote ourselves. Afterwards someone adds up all the votes and voilÃ*!
