VIP & McLean Gone

McLean will put himself and his Brisbane-based Level 2 Paragon Motorsport outfit on the market following a decision by principal sponsor VIP Petfoods not to renew its contract.

VIP blamed the lack of coverage from channel ten during the season and also at Bathurst where they had their best result for the year. They were the third ford home on the day and eighth for the race.

Channel ten rejected the claims saying that due to the close race most of their time was spent on the battles up the front.

Mclean said that he has no plans for the future but will talk to other teams.

How soon before we see VIP Petfoods as a smaller associate sponsor on the side of a HRT/TWR Commodore?? Who is next, Pepsi and other sponsors that are sick of a total lack of coverage?

This is the way its heading, the multi car juggernaut pushing out the smaller Level 2 teams, and believe me this will in time prove to be the deathknell of V8 Supercars.

Channel Ten have a lot to answer for with their pathetic human interest stories and add-filling whilst there is a motor race on, can be squarely blamed for this. Cut the historical **** before add breaks that most of us have seen before, there is a motor race happening!! Maybe McLean should have wiped his car on a concrete wall somewhere - obviously that is the only way you will get any coverage. I would like to see the annual breakdown of TV time per entry to prove the bias towards the megabuck multi-nationals.

CD.

But if they claim that it was because of the "great" battles up in front, then why did they talk about Peter Brock all of the time, and interview people who would rather be elsewhere?!

It is a sad day when a team such as ours is thrilled when the driver is the first to go off like Dugal did in Qld as the TV time is vital

Great shame. McLean is one of the really good drivers out there who is sorely underated. If only a good team would pick him up and give him a drive. We live in hope.......

A real shame, he has proved he is a very good driver, both in ST, in the privateers cup in 1999 and his 2 Bathursts with DJR.

Sure it was a good race, but it wasn't a great race all day, there was plenty of time to go and look at the other cars.

One aspect of the Ch 7 coverage which is sadly lacking now is that at least Ch 7 used to 'go through the field' and try to give every entry at least some coverage - unlike the 'home of motorsport'

Can ch10 explain why they haven't been showing his car al the rest of the year? Its not as if it's been close up front or anything...

Cameron is deserving of a drive for next year, and its sad that he wont have a ride

Yeah Channel 10 DO have a lot to answer for.

I reckon if its true, then Cameron would have to be In Dick Johnsons Sights he has always been impressed with Mclean
or Maybe Cameron will take over the Weel Falcon after Paul goes to Kmart as Cams Father John was involved with Weel team at Bathurst

Tander has signed with GRM for another 2 years I beleive.

Also, we can't forget what CH.10 has done for V8 supercars. It was they're coverage that gave V8 supercars huge ratings again. However money is starting to kill the sport and I wouldn't be suprised if they start to loose drivers and support like CART. I may be wrong, and I hope I am wrong.

There have been a number of signs that things aren't 100%.

Dissatisfaciton with qualifying procedures - thus we saw the sudden change this year with AVESCO/TEGA trying to get it right - but still failing as witnessed by the number of grumbles still coming out.

Crowd dissatisfaction with the events being put on at tracks ie lack of support events and extended 'quiet times'

Constant 'We are God' attitudes from AVESCO claiming, of course, that they can't get anything wrong and, when things are wrong, trying to blame anyone but themselves.

Ch 10 now alienating sponsors - how many more will realise that unless the car they are on is red or blue, punts someone else off the track or totals their car - they simply won't get exposure.

Agree that Bargs seat is vacant next year, but I would be suprised if Cameron and Gina moved south. I don't know, that is just my opinion though.

Heard on the Triple M rumour file this morning, VIP Petfoods will be sponsoring next year's Gold Coast Indy.

*IF* the event goes ahead - the way CART are culling events at present there is some serious doubt as to its future for CART

Are they culling events are they?

They've lost Motegi and Lausitz, and replaced them both.
