Hmmm... does that make it the weekend before Long Beach? Might be worth an extended trip to the Southland.

What do you mean again indycool? There has always been plans for a Las Vegas street race, but instead they opted for the oval.

Isn't it IRL fans that go to that race? Then there's the casual fans which I'm sure wouldn't travel from Florida to Nevada when there is already open wheel racing......

As for the layout it is ok and you can see opportunities for overtaking but it’s annoying that there would be yet another street event. Also turns 5 through to 8 look a bit Mickey mouse and processional through there and then Bourdais and the Newman /Haas strong street package could be another race when the Frenchman is unbeatable.

Well, technically open-wheel has run a street race in Vegas in the past. Except it was F1, not Champ car. And April might be a good time to do it -- not usually wicked hot for those of us who have to stand out in the weather. And not as humid as St Pete's (if I'd be willing to work an IRL event, which I'm not).

Actually Champ Car took over the F1 race at Vegas Caesar's Palace and modified the 'E' shapped course into a short of oval...it ran from '83 to '84...

Actually I'll tell you what the layout reminds me of. Almost a carbon copy of the original, original, orginal San Jose layout.

Don't mind the circuit, as far as street circuits go. It aint to bad. The run down into corner 1 should prove interesting, as is corner 12 and 13, i hope they keep the main straight as long as it is and don't put in a crappy chicane to break up the flow.

Also get rid of corners 5-8, looks as bad as 8-10 on the indy road coarse

To be expected, but with the success of attendance and generated income in San Jose and Edmonton (new venues) I believe that the council members will see the impace and it is manageable for a city a city that size to work out $3.3 million - like it was said, how much improvement is in the future without the race! I think this can and will get done.

The attendance and generated income in San Jose led the promoter to ask the city council there for $4 million.

Using the map of the track in the first link, and Google Maps, I have made it possible to see what could be the new track.

It would be nice if they moved turn 4 back a block and eliminated turns 5-6, would shorten the track a bit, but wouldn't make it such a procession through that bit.

Hey Indy, if you could get it would you ask too! I was there, it was chaotic, lack of bridges and seating, but it was crowded and should improve this year and beyond.

I suppose so, racin, but it just split the electorate (readotential customers) out there and became a campaign issue. May not have been worth it in the long run with the slide job they did to get it.

If that is what the course will be, then I hope that they run counterclockwise. On the last left-hander, the Champ Cars can floor it and race all the way to the other side.

That link is to one man's opinion, indycool. It doesn't provide one single "quotable quote" (that seems to have become so important lately). Not what I'd call "concrete news".

Would anyone be surprised to learn that a contract has already been let to a construction firm at Indy to REMOVE the infield course this September and restore the 'front nine' of the golf course?
