Melbourne 2006 - Won't be Round 1
Any bets yet as to where Melbourne will end up in the Championship in 2006 - the Commonwealth Games are being run in Melburne that year and it was announced today that the F1 GP will not be able to take its usual start of March place in the Championship.
Given the time required to set up the circuit it looks like it won't be able to run until at least the end of April - so where will it end up?? Betting opens tomorrow |

Where did you get this time RT? (You may want to enlighten those from out of town why this effects the GP)
If it does move, it will be at the end of the year like Adelaide. |

Had heard rumours this morning on talk back radio in Melbourne - but was also in todays Melbourne papers and ABC TV News tonight at 7.
The Commonwealth Games are being held in Melbourne in 2006 and run for 2 weeks. As I understand it they will run from March 15 to 26th 2006 - because of this the GP circuit wouldn't be able to be dismantled in time and numerous Albert Park venues will be used for the games - thus, it appears, it rules out having the GP on the first weekend of March - and, again as I understand it, it cannot be held earlier. Remember that it takes them around 2-3 months setting up the GP and about a month to dismantle. However - I wouldn't bet on an end of year fixture either. |

It won't be run anywhere else at the same time as the majority of the organising people for the GP are the same people rganising theCommonwealth Games - Ron Walker etc...

To host the last round would mean a major shuffle - especially when you consider the final round, for the past few years, has clashed with Bathurst....

It can't take 2-3 months to setup a grandprix. The US grand prix has 17 days to be setup between the Indy 500 and the US Grand Prix in 2004. That is moving walls, moving bleachers that sit in front of the garges, etc.

From when they start moving the barriers in - that is what they currently take.
But regardless of that - the powers that be have already decided that the March 15 start date is too close to the GP and, whether we like it or not, the date will apparently be changing. |

As an australian i must admit melbourne certainly doesn't deserve the last round.Purely to do with the track-it's an interesting track in it's small way but it's definitely not even remotely a place i would like to see champions to be battling it out.Suzuka deserves that honour + MAYBE other tracks

When Ayrton Senna was alive, he was a big supporter for the Adelaide race, if he was still around, do you think the race would still be on?
And Bathurst would be a GREAT F1 race!!! |

Bathurst wopuld never make the cut because the safety walls could never be removed and blind corners would obstruct the vision in low slung F1 cars. Nice dream though |

If brazil stays 2nd last round, racing melborne last round would work.
Melborne works well for a descider because it has Turn One which is a place where you can overtake, which is why Montreal/Monnaco/Budapest won't ever hold a decider, and nor will Jerez ("What engine is in the back of the sauber" "..look martin..." "Its a ferrari isn't it?" "you are awfully pesamistic martin...") I'm having a bad spelling day. |

The current talk, from Ron Walker, is that the current Rounds 1 and 2 may swap. But, as he points out, this decision will not be made until next year anyway.
