Thurner_fan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Oil filled, steel bodied dampers

A colleague has recently purchased a car he intends to use for historic racing. But, it must use oil filled, steel bodied dampers rather than the gas filled aluminium items currently fitted.

Does anyone know (1) which companies make oil filled, steel bodied dampers, and (2) which are best?

Most dampers are steel bodied and oil filled - relatively few are alloy bodied and gas filled. I know Koni make a range of dampers for historic cars, one of which may do the job, and Koni have a pretty good reputation. I used them on a historic Porsche I had, for example, and found they were very good.

I had valiant service from my AVO steel/oil dampers before eventually changing to aly ones. They do motorsport replacements for quite a range of historic cars so you may have some luck there:
