Entry Count for 2018 Indy 500

It seems like every year since the split, there is always the question of whether or not there will be at least 33 entries for the 500. Well it's December 20 and what I can tell there is already 31 committed entries (counting Danica, take that for what its worth).

Do you think there will be some true bumping this year?

Will we approach the upper 30s for number of entries....40 (just kidding)?

...but still. There is a lot of buzz this year.

You can pencil in Urrutia, at the very least least for the Indy 500.

No, neither supplier wants to deal with contracts for oversubscribed grids. It seems both are stretched to their limits filling 33 cars, filling 34 and having one not make the field is not at all what either supplier wants to see. And Marshall and Robin Miller have reported they hear the same every year when it comes to over 33, not happening.

It seems like everyone is leaning toward her deal being with ECR for the 500, feels like more than a few teams didn't think the money was worth the effort to field her car. Actually surprising considering Indy is a festival of media insanity anyway, guessing the cash on offer was not a great pile any longer.

It seems like D&R will get Sage Karam and ECR will have Danica on board for the 500, or at least all the Indy reports I've read have all but confirmed. But they have all been wrong before so

We can stop holding our breath, as it's finally been confirmed, Danica's swan song at this year's Indy 500 will be with Ed Carpenter Racing.

And it seems they were not planning on announcing until after Daytona until she slipped and said she hadn't talked to Ed and the guys about her Indy planning as of yet in an interview.

To me stealing some attention while at Daytona is perfect, but better coordination was needed. I don't know why Indycar or ECR wouldn't want to try to get some of the eyes to follow her to Indy, it's a long 3 months until Indy starts.

If you believe SPM and their 90% chance of the #7 joining the 5 (Hinch) and 6 (Wickens) and the partner 60 (MSR), it looks like POSSIBLY 34,35 cars at Indy by his count. I expect more like 35 will announce they are close to a deal and then engine will hold them up, similar to what killed the previous MSR attempt in 2012 I believe.

That's takin' alot of owners to get Bourdais' car to the style he is accustomed to. Meanwhile Marco is off to Andretti-Herta with a new number.

Interesting to see Wickens on the grid and to see a Fittipaldi scrollin' by on the timing ribbon once again. I note Ed Jones with a plumb Ganassi drive alongside Dixon.

Nice to see Michael Shank represented there. .
