Twenties Le Mans pictures?
This is a real long shot. Does anyone have any pictures of the Lorraine Dietrich driver called "Stalter"? He drove at La Sarthe from 1923 to 1926, coming third in both 1925 and 1926. I'm looking for a portrait if possible - LAT has just one photo, showing the start of the 1923 race, but an image of his face is what's required here. It seems possible that the same man took part in some French hillclimbs in 1931-33 as well, also in a Lorraine Dietrich.
In addition, the index to Brian Laban's recent Le Mans book gives a first name of Fred for him - can anyone confirm that? Or - and this is the $64000 question - can anyone tell me his real name? Google and AlltheWeb searches throw up nothing in the way of pictures, but I'm hoping someone might have something in their archive, perhaps of a Lorraine Dietrich with unidentified driver. |

No pics found so far but did find the following on the 1924 race.
"At half time Duff in the Bentley was lying second to the Lorraine of Stalter and Bloch;"..........."the French car which ultimately retired at 1pm" I trust that Bloch is R.Bloch winner in 1926 and runner-up in 1928. |

Try this French site I found
http://passionnemans.free.fr/Edition...tion-1926.html There is a video at the top that I think has 1926 footage. I tried to downlowd but it froze at 25%. As it is all in French it was pushing my translation skills. If you are interested he finished 23 19th with Bloch 24 dnf Bloch 25 3rd Brisson 26 3rd Brisson All in L-D B3-6 After that he disappeared Simon |

Simon, thanks so much for that! I managed to download it, after a long struggle. Right at the end, there is a victory scene, with Stalter's #4 car just moving into shot. Only one of the drivers is visible, but I'm hoping it may be Stalter. If it is, I hope I'll shortly be able to give you his real name!
