Another tree falls @ Mallory
Just come back from the circuit, with the news that the big old tree at Post 10 (the hairpin) has been removed due to it's ill health.
The other news is that at the Bus Stop the earth banking is being taken back which will give a bit of a runoff which makes me wonder if the BSB nutters will try to straight line it. The Flag Point on the outside there is being taken down and moved back which is good news, I flagged a bike meeting there last year and it was a bit rickety, or was that me? |

Bah - I've already lost my braking point when they took out the big tree on the approach to the hairpin. There were a few times on Boxing day that I nearly ended up going off because I forgot to brake as there was no tree...!

How can it be that all these trees have terminal diseases or is there another agenda going on. The demise of the oak tree was bad enough,as for being rotten I saw the Fat Clerk leaning against it many times last season without any trouble.

There's a serious outbreak of disease afecting oaks in the East Midlands area, so it may be connected?
Philosphical question. If a tree falls at a racing circuit, and nobody's there to see it, do race control have to hear about it? |

There was a piece in the Leicester Mercury the another night talking about the number of Oak trees in Leicestershire that had some sort of fatal infection. I must say the one at Post 9 was very bad in the middle.

This type of incident should be logged by the nearest Flag Point.

With all these improvments we may even get proper grid markings on the track with the correct stagger... or is that asking too much

We have a flag point called "Gum Tree" at Sandown (Australia) which is now known as "Gone Tree" since they cut the Gum Tree down a little over a year ago.

Just got back from Mallory(BARC/BMMC Training Day), and the work in progress is amazing. The approach to the Hairpin is going to be so much faster now, the gravel trap behind The Elbow has been extended to beyond the Oak Tree(that was). I imagine the approach speed will increase dramatically.Be prepared for some BIG accidents!!! You've been warned.

The run off where the old post 9 (on the inside of the circuit) was is now probably as wide as the track from this point it tapers in to where the old post 10 observers point was, the track looks very open on the run up to the hairpin. At the moment all this area is mud so unsure if this will be grass or gravel trap. It looks as though the entry speeds to the hairpin will increase and at present not sure how you get from the bank at post 9 or the back of the elbow (post 11) to deal with anything as there is a drop of about 6ft with no obvious way down. Should make the first meeting very interesting for anyone around this area.

I suppose we could suggest Mallory put some rope ladders down the bank!!!! I am not volunteering to try them out.
