Any idea's for a monoshock damper unit with pull rods
Hi guys, 1st time using this forum.
I have been "randomly" given pull rods and a monoshock to design front suspension for a single seater. I was wondering if any1 knew of any exiting cars which had this setup so I could compare designs. Many thanks guys! |

Perhaps the old adage...'Google is your friend' applies here.

Graeme White Jnr's hillclimb single seater,I'm pretty sure, runs such a system.Maybe try a posting on the hillclimb/sprint section.I think that a bloke called Martin Ogilvie designed the suspension on the car. Also saw a mid engined,Mallock type car at the Autosport show years ago that had a pull rod/monoshock front suspension so there's a few out there with this system fitted.

The Dallara IRL car runs pull rod front suspension - I think it is however conventional dual dampers. Up until this year modern F3 cars ran monoshocks. Must be possible to get some ideas from these two types of cars and amalgamate them.

Hi all, thanks for all the input. I have been looking at a mixture of applications and have come up with a few designs, but scarbs the sketches are really good. The only issue I could think of is that as it is at the front of the car, would the pull rods go diagonally backwards to the upright at an angle i.e. is it ok to mount the wishbones not perpendicular to the bell crank? I apologise if this is a stupid question but I cant see where the wishbones would attach to the chassis. Many thanks

The front arm of the wishbones is often pretty much perpendicular to the centreline of the car. i.e. viewed from above the pushrods and wishbone front arms point inwards towards each other. Of course the pushrod/pullrod is slightly behind the wishbones (can't go through it!), but you should get the idea.
Having said that, there isn't really any reason why that has to be the case. If you wanted you could have the pullrods at whatever inclination you liked, and just position the bellcrank to suit. |
