[STCC] Race 5 - Gothenburg (SWE), 13/14 June 2008

Time for the first ever city race for the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Gothenburg City Race is the place for the event and the track is lockated in the harbour of Gothenburg - the second largest city in Sweden.

Should be interesting as no teams have any previous information about the track. Lets hope the crashes are few.

A video around the track:

You could argue about if this track really is a street-circuit, or a track that happens to be close to a city-center. But at least the walls are close enough to the track to make it a proper street-course! I think it's going to be a really challenging track, but it has to be seen if anyone can overtake...

Great video! Really looking forward to this race, it should be awesome. Altho I cant be at the track to watch the racing as planned sadly, so will have to watch it on TV instead, almost as good. But the first corner complex there look so sweet for spectators!

I wonder what will happen if it rains? Thinking of the drainage on such a flat surface as an old pier.

There was a lot of talk about how they would make several slow 3+ car wide corners (both entering and exiting the corner) to make overtaking a ****ibility. Lets hope they did the homework properly and succeded

I can see your point on that but like you say the walls are still there to catch anyone out.

Looks like it'll be a quick, flowing circuit, just wish we got to see STCC over here.

Both SVT and NRK have the races on their websites. SVT I know have all this years races as well as all last years races on their site and they don't block residents from outside the country. Not the best every quality, but good enough if you dont want to download full res captures from 3rd party sites.

I watched the movies, must say, qualifing will be much more important than on permanent circuit.

I know it's a street circuit, but do they plan to leave the fences and stands for the rest of the year? It looks to me they're permanent.

Is there a replacement on the programme for the mororcycles? I'm sure they won't drive at this track.

The track is permanent for minimum 5 years.

The support-races for this weekend are Carrera Cup Scandinavia, JTCC and Camaro Cup.

Who bet against a pile-up in JTCC?

Looking forward to seeing this on TV.

Test session right now has been red flaged after Dalhgren put his Volvo into the barrier. He still has the fastest lap however.

Meissner, would it be possible to have an onboard lap from Flash or Göranssons car up on youtube later this evening, so we can see a full speed lap?

Times from 2nd test, impressive times from Andersson in the Alfa and also from Simonsen in the Audi in his very first STCC weekend!

Have you changed gearbox to manual for Goeransson for Gothenburg? I remember I saw him driving semi- car when I browsed youtube last time? Does it better suit highdownforce circuits?

Yeah, I was a little bit worried after seeing the bigger heavier Porsches and Camaros drive round round in starting order. But the smaller and nimbler TCC cars REALLY had an exciting race where overtaking was definitely possible. The much bigger spread in car characteristics as well as old/new tires on the cars due to the much longer race and pitstops spiced it up as well. Definitely one of the best city races I've seen with Touring Cars.

I enjoyed the race very much. Congratulations to Bjork, and a big compliment to Schie, who had the mental and fysical strenght and the car to attack right to the end. It was great to see him overtake backmarkers in a descisive style and get closer and closer to Bjork.
Having said that, I'm sure Bjork would have kept him behind anway, but still.
Some bad luck for Dahlgren, although he shouldn't have closed the door so hard, since Engstrom was really far inside, and couldn't have avoided him. Also Stureson had a lot of bad luck. Everytime something happend, he came out as the largest loser, sometimes through no fault of his own.
Anyway, great race!
