Event the motorsport juggernaut NASCAR can't get any respect from the media. Take a look at MSN's front news page. There is an article about the business side of NASCAR with an IRL car as the captioned photo.
MSN can be reached at http://www.msn.com |

Give me a break! No wonder NBC's coverage of NASCAR stunk at Homestead if MSNBC can't tell the difference from a stock car and an IRL car. American NASCAR fans, it looks like we are in serious trouble. KC, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Joe, I'm not too worried (yet) about the NBC performance at Homestead. The regular NASCAR TV personnel are still under contract with their current networks etc, and I'm guessing (hoping) that the group NBC sent out will not be representative of their work next year.
As far as the IRL car, no comment on that one.... |

Hey, where's the article? I assume it's been changed already? Know where it is? Looked around in Business, News, sports, autos but can't seem to find that article.

There's probably no archive and the picture error was on the front page and not on the article it linked to.

Think yourself lucky that you get some coverage.
Here in the UK only the Daytona 500 is shown on Sky, the rest of the season may be shown on Eurosport but they prefer to put Skiing or Tennis on instead. IbbY |

Since last year, drivers, teams and sponsors have been abandoning Champ Cars and NHRA to go Winston Cup Racing because it was seen as the up and coming major league sport in the early part of the new decade. I wondered why the concensus of opinion was so. It seems to me that Nascar is not an NFL, NBA, NBL competitor at the moment but has, through the media, been given a chance to "step up to the plate" so to speak. If Nascar doesn't deliver (or manufacture?) close racing on a regular basis, then it will not be long before it begins a recession. The casual TV viewer desperately needed by Nascar has a choice of sports to watch on a Sunday. Nascar is the only 'Major' which offers a single competition (or race) weekly. Therefore, it must be consistently interesting. Judging by the snooze-fest at Daytona, their work will be cut out.

Well, I heard that in terms of Nascar souvenirs/Nascar related "stuff" is worth over a billion dollars which exceeds even the NBA, NHL, etc...? And perhaps even those added together in the next few years??
