F1 Speeds - what do you think?
Hey Guys
I've heard that Eddie Jordan said his EJ11 can do 0-100 mph in 4.3 seconds with traction control. When I found this out I was astonished but does anyone know the times for lets say Ferrari, McLaren or Williams, cause they must be better. Also what do you guys reckon if F1 cars went and had a race on a oval like Indianapolis how fast would they get in top speed, more faster than the Cart cars I would think. Good to hear what you guys think. f1_fanatic8 |

In one of Jeremy Clarsons videos he races a Jordan Viper whilst in a Ferrrari F40. The Jordan could do 0-100-0 in 5.5 seconds so the 4.3 with raction control sounds a little slow. Unless it was in the wet or something.

Acceleration numbers are heavily influenced by factors hard to compare between disparate cars. F1 cars probably do not generate a huge amount of torque at low rpm because the operating range is in the 13,000rpm range and up. I bet the acceleration times from 0-60 are slower than the times from 60-120 for an F1 car as well. Take an F40 or Viper which generate massive amounts of low-end torque and have huge amounts of mechanical grip that an F1 car needs speed to produce due to aerodynamics. The CART cars accelerate much faster through their mid-range than their low end because of the nature of their turbochargers and their suspension designs. Its hard to compare accleration figures when the cars are designed to do such different jobs.
