Yes, great drive by Tander......carved them up after serving penalty. Tomorrows races should be interesting.

I wonder what would happen if he just dumped it as soon as the reds come on, and gained a massive lead..... rather than stop starting and losing any advantage gained in the first place.... would they apply the same 10s penalty? Might be worth doing.... if you're going to get pinged for a jumpstart, you might as well gain as much advantage from it as possible right?

to get a good enough jump to try and make a gain, you would need to jump by about 10 ses right, the officials would just abort the start and have another formation lap.
Good theory though. |

Peter Janson did this a Oran Park some, what? 30 years ago? Back in those days the penalty for a jump start was a 1 minute penalty - so he figured, lap times of 1 min plus (as they were then) - I take off at the 1 minute board all they can do is give me a minute penalty.
So he went at the one minute board and, as he guessed correctly, they applied a one minute penalty. But, during the race he was black flagged, brought into pit lane and, whilst there told 'Oh sorry - wrong car - on your way again...' and let him go. Up shot - pit lane stop/go PLUS a one minute penalty. Effectiveness of going early - zero. What would happen these days? After the paramedics had attended race control to attend the collapsed race director ('How can they do that ay MY race meeting!!!') you would probably find a 'Murphy Penalty' applied as well as 'financial sanctions' for 'bringing the sport into disrepute' (the first appl;ied by the race director, the second by the stewards who were watching from Race Control and should never be there in the first place as their job is to ADJUDICATE on charges brought by the Clerk of Course - not to hand them out - but thats a debate for another day |

What a load of rubbish. He jumped the start and had to pay the price. He and his team need to work harder rather than resorting to jumping the start to gain an unfair advantage.
