Aussie Style Hats

Hi guys, I'm new to the wearing of orange this year. Now i'm not that fond of hats but can greatly see the advantages of good head gear in the hot/warm weather. I do have a couple of baseball type hats. But at the couple of meetings I have done this year, I have noticed a couple of you guys wearing what appears to be leather bush hats. Any hints as to wear I can get hold of one please. As this looks like the type of hat I would gladly wear, rain or shine. Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Kevin.

If you're up at Snetterton and get a lunch break (what's one of them!) then you can get them at the Sunday Market for about £20

I have worn an Australian hat since I started marshalling. I imported two from Australia, one Buffalo Hide for Marshalling and one softer Kangaroo Hide for family days out in hot sun.

http://www.barmahhats.com.au/

Not sure where I purchased mine from now, some on-line .au shop?
Mine don't have a neck strap but some people prefer them with straps.

Here are UK stockist (But they aint cheap!)

some outdoor wear shops have leatehr 'bush man' style hats for sale. i know Winfields in Haslingden (nr manchester) have them.

try Go Outdoors stores, Milletts or Blacks too.

Also look at Tilley Hats. not leather, but cotton or hemp - excellent hats

Mine came from Auckland airport, even further. I like that the Kiwi versions are waterproof ('cos it rains more there) and fold up to almost nothing. Remarkably it's only fallen off once despite no chin strap.

Sadly, the waterproofing is giving up now so I need to re-apply something to bring it back to standard.

Ours are "cricket style" cotton wide brimmed hats, which do the trick without harming any live animals. Always managed with a baseball cap until we got these.

The fact that they say "New Zealand" and have a fern on the front is neither here nor there.........

I would consider getting one but I know the Steve Irwin in me would take over and I'd starting chasing animals and shouting 'bugger.'

Mine came from Darwin airport IIRC. The British weather is alrady starting to take it's toll though. Can anyone recommend a good wax or polish that can be used on them?

Either Crumpet or big hats, in this thread anyway Looking forward to it!!

Am I far off?

As for the hats, I just stick to my baseball caps on the bank but anything's good as long as it helps in the sun and rain.

I think they are refering to Shepards Neame Spitfire El. SN being the oldest (or at least one of the oldest) breweries in the UK. Spitfire is a bit to tangy for my tastes, I prefer Northern Ales such as Jennings and Thwaites but have been known to drink just about anything on offer!

Wouldnt want to suspend them from my hat though, too much temptation!
