A Korean GP after all?!
http://formula-one.speedtv.com/artic...y-be-canceled/
So, we might get eighteen rounds unless a replacement could be found - no surprise, bearing in mind that the teams were preparing for the location of the circuit by watching Ray Mears Bushcraft ... |

The media always try to shoot down the new races. They did it last year with Abu Dhabi and this isn't the first time they've said this about Korea too. I wouldn't read anything into it

If Korea doesn't go ahead do they need a replacement race a la Jerez in 97?

Did Jerez replace Estoril that year? Was it something to do with circuit modifications?

Yes, safety modifications to Estoril weren't finished on time.

I thought it was more facilities rather than safety
I think we'd just have 1 less race this time. We'd have 18 as it is. No big deal to lose one - the teams would probably be grateful. All the nonsense spouted last year about Canada replacing Abu Dhabi was just that - I believed it possible for about 5 minutes, until a Canadian friend told me it would be impossible because it would be too cold. I think that was a GMM story as well |

Speed TV is hardly the most reliable source in the world... I will wait for something nearer the time perhaps. It always seems to be the news before any new GP

Now Tilke's worried that the race isn't going to happen. This is looking more and more possible that we'll get an eighteen round calendar, or a quick scratch around for a reserve in the region ... |

I feel sorry for the fans if this is true.
This will mean Korea will have earnt a trifecta in cancelling Champcar, A1 and F1 grands prix . |

When did they cancel in A1?
But yeah, this actually looks a pretty reasonable shout now. Wouldn't be the first time either - Bernie signed a contract with the Koreans for a race at a new suspiciously Estoril-esque circuit at Sepoong in the late 90s but it never came about |

Would be a shame to lose it in some ways, its always nice to see a new track, even if it turns out to be pretty bad for racing.

The usual stirring to get the fans excited that one of the dreaded Asian races won't happen, then. Nothing changes
The old "Hyundai planning F1 entry" rumour will be next then. You can tell the journos are bored |

You never though, they could scrabble around for a replacement round (last time we had a race cancellation we got an extra race, but in Jerez) - Motegi will already have hosted the Japanese bike GP ...

This isn't the first thread about this, and it won't be the last.
If it gets homologated with a month to spare, like Abu Dhabi, it will happen. |

I'd like to see it happen, as despite the featureless nature of the Tilke-drome it still adds a bit of interest to go to a new circuit.
If it does all fall apart, it won't be replaced. I think it would make a fantastic story for them to rock up somewhere like Motegi late notice and race there as a replacement, but things like that just don't happen in F1 anymore. |
