If i already had an OBE, i would be rather cheesed off. De-valuing.
And i'm not just being mean for the sake of it, i am actually wondering what the selection criteria are nowadays.... |

As Mike Hawthorn once said, "Order of the Bald 'Ead".

Here is a link to this news of EJs honorary OBE:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/17542926 It is for services to Motorsport and charity. He is patron of the children's charity CLIC Sargent. Rock 'n' roll. |

It's not unusual for celebrities to get an honour for their charity work. Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page got his OBE not for his music, but for his charity work in Brazil.

Hey... that's well below the belt ! EJ has done an enormous amount of work for charity over the years... in particular CLIC Sargent, the childhood cancer charity. He's a very worthy recipient of the award.

Having since learnt of his charity involvement, then yes, my initial comment would appear below the belt.
The cynic in me is going to dig around to find out just how much he does though. |

Probably more than most cynics, I'd guess

Also on the positive side he started several companies that have provided employment in the Northamptonshire area.
While not worthy on its own for an OBE, it must be a significant contributory factor. |

Another version is Order of the Boot Everywhere. As far as his charity work I am not sure how he has done for CLIC Sargent, but I am sure that Sir Malcolm would be pleased that a volunteer for the charity named after him has been honoured by Her Majesty
