Baigu should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
canadian Attending first V8 races in OZ tips needed

Hi!

I'll be going to Australia (Sydney) this summer and I plan on going to the Coates Hire Ipswich 360.

I plan on taking a flight from Sydney to Brisbane.
However, I'm not sure how to get to the track? My main concern is , beside renting a car, how do I get to the track?

Also, any suggestion on viewing locations? Where could I get the weekend schedule from?

thanks!

HI baigu, if you go to the V8supercars site and select Ipswich 360 from the events tab, they have some info, and accomondation info, also, its a long drive from the airport to Ipswich, best option, is take the Gateway motorway, continue right down, dont go down the M1, taket the gateway exstension , and get to on to the Logan Matorway, this will take you to Ipswich, check it on google maps
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=log...en&sa=N&tab=wl

I would book accom now as it gets a bit tight towards the meeting. You can see the whole track from any where, turns 3 and 6 are good for pics as is the back straight. There is a track map also in the same area, under circuit information

hopw this helps

Hi there,

I think renting a car is unavoidable for this event as the circuit is not in a major metro centre.

Ipswich is about 40km from Brisbane (mostly freeway). The circuit is a further 11km out of Ipswich. I'm unsure of the availability of shuttle buses from Ipswich to circuit, but I would suggest you will need to rent a car for the weekend if you're staying in Ipswich. If you went here: http://www.qldraceways.com.au/home.php you could contact Queensland Raceway directly and they could advise on what transportation is being provided for the weekend.

But if you're staying in Brisbane, you're looking at 100+km round trip each day, in some heavy traffic (close to the circuit) so your travel time will be significant.

Accommodation in Ipswich city will need you to book early. But I'd definitely suggest contacting Queensland Raceway - I'm sure they'd be happy to give you advice and guidance.

Note: I haven't been to the V8s at Ipswich, but have been to drag and karting events over the years and even those tend to book out accommodation in Ipswich.

Hope this helps.

The approach to turn 3 has to be the closest one can get to cars at full noise in Australia.

Once you get away from the track and towards Ipswich the traffic should sort itself out.

The regular bus service out of Ipswich stops at the Caravan Park but it's still a fair way from the track, not sure what is done for Drag or Race events though.

Renting a car is likely your best option and possibly cheaper if arranged while still overseas.

I was hoping to avoid having to rent a vehicle. I won't be a road hazard since I've never driven on the "other side" before? haha

I'd never driven on the right hand side of the road, but I hopped off a 14 hour flight, into my brand spanking new S class at Frankfurt, and had it maxed out on the autobahn 7 minutes later. Didn't even give the thing a chance to warm up. Was fine, you just need to pay attention, and roundabouts will mess with your head.

Needless to say I wouldn't recommend buying a second hand rental.

I booked our flights from Sydney to Brisbane! We will be attending the race on Saturday only. We have other plans on Sunday sadly, but at least I'll get to see the cars on Saturday!

Where could I find the weekend schedule?
I plan on purchasing our Saturday tickets at the box office on Saturday morning? Is that a problem or should I purchase them ahead of time?

You can purchase at the gate... Always a bit of a line up (it is quicker to pre-purchase) but no difference really.

I hope you have a blast, but having said that don't base your v8 experience on Queensland Raceway, I love the v8s but always walk away from my home track a little under whelmed by the experience. You can see the whole track but it’s not exactly an exciting piece of bitumen.

The weekend schedule hasn't been released yet (at least not on the V8 Supercar site. When it is it will be displayed here: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/events...h-300/the-race.

I'd suggest pre-paying for simplicity so you don't have to queue up, but it's not essential.

Hope you have a great time.

I remember the English summer in 94 and everyone complaining about the 26c days and no rain for a week. That was a spring day for me.

HI BAIGU I 've tried to send 3 PM's to you but my computer seems too be playing up. I can offer you a ride to/from Ipswich and Gold Coast on the Saturday if you didn't get the PM's.

Hope you have a great time in Oz mate. One word of warning, my limited experience of driving in Canada (over a one month period) tells me that you'll need to pay particular attention to stupid speed limits as there is little to no negotiation available to anyone. That being the case, you could probably drive blindfolded as long as you don't go 1 km over the speed limit and be found suitable to hold an Aussie driving licence!

cheers mate

Except for the wind which is going to make fishing Monday and Tuesday a bit uncomfortable.

We just came back from our trip! We made it to the race on Saturday and It was really fun. Took the train from Brisbane to Ipswich. At the Ipswich train station, there was a shuttle to take fans to the track and back! Made it really easy for us!

Really enjoyed the day at the track! I've been waiting a long time to see those cars in person! The weather was amazing! ( I don't call that winter weather!! haha)

Dunlop series was also really entertaining as well. Too bad Stoner spunned at the start of the race, but it was fun seeing him trying to climb back up!

We watched the race between corner 1 & 2. I didn't expect such a big crowd for a Saturday, but it was a pleasant suprise!
