Merc win the 2015 WCC!
certainly the team deserve much credit for another successful campaign but from the fans point of view, is this an accolade worthy of congratulations or just a sign of the times we live in?
it couldn't be helped that the the timing of Kimi's move came so late in the race that it would have been difficult to assess a penalty prior to the podium celebration, but it really doesnt help that the news came after everyone had already turned off their telly. then again Merc winning was a forgone conclusion so it was always going top be an anticlimactic victory. either way though, it is a tradition around here for a thread to start up to congratulate a winner so congrats to Merc and their 1200 strong staff. i suppose i should wish you continued success but i hope its a little less easy next year |

It's certainly very impressive.
There have been races where they were just beaten rather than throwing it away. More than last year? These have been few and far between. Great car, great engine and great hybrid bits. Top package. |

So they won with the only competitive specification of the best engine available.
Congratulations on the work they did in 2013 in laying out the F1 PU development. IMO subverting every cost control initiative anyone was putting into place and apparently buying every F1 championship until 2019! They have turned F1 into a corporate business with certain results and no possibility of competition! Yay, just so good for the sport. |

They might dominate another year in Formula One if they're stronger than ever.

i agree its a terrible and unsustainable framework but still part of me is happy to see teams who have advocated unlimited spending etc being beaten at their own game. |

But. Nobody is allowed to compete / can compete with works team; HUGE PROBLEM! Mercedes were simply big enough and committed enough to spend all the development cash up front, and now we are stuck with a pointless parade that has only one leader! Last edited by wnut; 14 Oct 2015 at 22:03. |

Yes engine regs allowing development would be better as is pointed out in what feels like every thread. I agree.
Anyway, well done Mercedes F1. |

This will no doubt do wonders for road car sales.

If PU development was open Ayse, and not wholly the province of the auto manufacturers I would agree with you, however the present scheme where you are not allowed to be competitive is just plain wrong!
In so far as RBR and McLaren voted for these rules when they thought they would be to their advantage you are right. However as a sport, F1 is dying! Last edited by wnut; 18 Oct 2015 at 01:01. |

F1 has become as interesting as a one make series; all the cars look and sound the same, the only difference is you have to be in a silver and turquoise model to win. Costs, rather than fall have escalated yet there is little innovation.
At least in the old days of the DFV other engine manufacturers could and did come up with winning designs and the good old Cosworth was fantastic for the "garagistes". F1 has legislated itself into a dead end. Motor racing will always go on and, no doubt, there will be a series worthy of all our attention. At the moment it ain't F1. |
