Old Hockenheim.

Can I use this forum to encourage any 10/10ths Members that if they have any specific memories of competing at the old Hockenheim circuit, that they drop their recollections off to Miss Hardt at www.hocki.supersonicsquirrel.net
I remember it as being a really daunting challenge, where slipstreaming skills, pure aggression and horsepower were paramount. Miss Hardt appears to be making a real effort to capture the atmosphere and mystique of the old place. Please reward her.
No wonder she mourns the passing of the old place, ... when compared to the new race 'stadium'.

Make that www.supersonicsquirrel.net and click on Collectives and then Rhapsody in Green. Miss Hardt also runs a fan site for Villeneuve Jnr.

Have never competed there but have plenty of memories as a spectator.

I also have a painting to do for Peter Gaydon of an F2 race he nearly won there in 1970. He told me those races were real slipstreamers, no wings fitted and he remembers Regazzoni having him off at 160mph out the back, costing him the win !

What struck me most about the place when I first went in '86, was the stadium type atmosphere. All of the spectators bar a few out at the Ost-kurve made for a magic event. I was also amazed at how narrow the track was! About the same as Cadwell. Look at any old photos or videos of the place and it is quite amazing that many wheel to wheel contests took place down to the first chicane with big wide slick shod F1 cars.
One year at the Hockenheim GP, having been to Silverstone 2 weeks earlier and stuck in traffic for 4 hours trying to leave the car park - we decided to time it, see how long it would take in comparison.
From reaching the car, FOUR and a HALF minutes later we were moving on the autobahn, not in stop-start traffic either but at about 50mph!
Things move on but such a shame that the unique nature ( and trees!) of the Hockenheimring have been lost.

Thanks for posting my link....but it somehow does not work with wwww I normally enter www into each single URL, but subdomains on my server don't work with www and I don't know why.

So, can a moderator somehow edit this?

And, as gfm said, I'd appreciate help from anyone else who has raced on HH or who has visited prior to awful things that happened last year.

Andrew, would you like to write an article for my site? I'd appreciate it, since I see you remember a lot.

Thanks everybody once again It's so nice that someone appreciates what Hocki was in the past and of course, it's so nice that people appreciate my hard work at last
