Vx?????????????
VX Racing we are told is obviously Vauxhall Racing. Of course, stands to reason. Until you start to think about it: Two random letters from the word Vauxhall. Could have easily been VH racing if ya ask me. Sounds good and racy and all that kinda thing, but you knew where you were with Vauxhall Motorsport. So is there something I'm missing? Vis is for Vauxhall.... X is for.....? |

VX is a traditional Vauxhall prefix. Eg, VX4/90 and VX220

Being and MG fan I'd say they nabbed the X from "X-Power". Just an attempt to make Vauxhall as a manufacturer cooler, though it is hard..

Actaully I did know that, but two and two didn't make four. I've just moved house while having a month long bout of gastric virus so my mind's been elsewhere... I'll change my tagline to....

'X' is one of those letters that car manufactorers think means cool, or special - see Jaguar X-type, Ford XR2, Honda CRX, etc etc.
Going back to Vauxhall for a sec I suspect it's part of a larger re-branding, along the lines of Ford's RS range. We already have the VX220 Elise-a-like, how long before we have VX Astra, VX Corsa, etc |

Cheers Ewing....
I am currently sitting in a very large office, which is as quiet as the grave while all the very self-important and sombre officers I have the misfortune of working with go about their serious business... and your reply caused a real dirty deep roar of laughter from moi. 30 pairs of eyes turned disapprovingly im my direction. See, I don't join in the mundane, may as well slit your wrists talk - Eastenders, legoland 2.3 children and VX Frontera in my four bed link detached prison, oh isn't the weather awful, perhaps it'll brighten up later. I talk to no one if I can help it but waffle on with you lot when not in Fortean Times or whatever or, shock horror, actually out there doing some work.... They'll all be wondering over now to pretend to use the photocopier while have a side shufty at my monitor. Work: the gradual erosion of everything that makes life enjoyable. It's not the job - it's the people. Anyway, thanks for the laugh... vera true it must be said. |

Might nip ion to the Gravel Trap and do a post on the "What made you laugh today?" thread.
Nah. Then I'd have joined the sublime pods. What do you think Ricky 'll say to Julie tonight. And where's the valium? Anyway, back to the point: Anyone know what X-Power means... if indeed it means anything deeper than a quick fix impress the Halfords special boy racer brigade. And a starter for 10: Where did Triple Eight come from? |

X-Power - as far as I know is meant to be the competition accesories division of MG Rover, though I don't know if it actually exists at all.
As for the X in X-Power, MG have used the EX### (ie EX260, EX261 etc) codenames for a while, I guess that'd be where that evolved from. |

MG have used EX for years I think. The gas powered landspeed record car has an X title I think as did the Xwhatever is was 80s concept car.

MG's EX cars date back long before the 1980's. EX stood for experimental.

Believe it, EX cars date back to at least the 1930's and were experimental or prototype cars. Most of the better known ones aimed at record breaking.
As for X-Power, well to quote from a 2001 MG press release "We have created a new sub-brand, called X-Power to bind together and symbolise all MG Sports & Racing activities. The letter X stems from historic MG associations, such as the 'EX' engineering project numbers and the 'XP' engine prefix. We already use 'X' codes for today's MG prototype model codes, and our new motorsport cars have 'EX' code numbers" |

Edenbridge is a place in Kent. Edenbridge Racing grew from Edenbridge Honda, which was set up by Peter Briggs who runs Edenbridge Racing. I can only assume that they then moved from Edenbridge to Tonbridge. Anyone care to clarify? Not sure if I’ve got my facts right, I’m only speculating. |
