Slicks

One word..Slicks! Bring them back....you'll bring back passing! Imagne that..passing. It's racing, there's gonna be wrecks, people do get hurt! I mean get rid of those stupid "grooved" tyres. There ****. Senna was a great loss to the sport, but "grooved" tyres arn't the answer! As safe as the F1 cars are today and as much as they are restricted there should be no reason not to bring them back. The FIA have to do something to keep the sport from losing more sponcers and to keep the fans coming to the race. I think thats it.

Agree with you , but for other reasons.
yesterday Ralf did'n change front tyres, in other occasions we saw drivers starting with used tyres: it's easy to suspect that a grooved Michelin can, with consumption, become similar to slick.
What i mean is that bringing back slick could help have same treatment for everybody, instead of having some drivers running on "faked"/grooved that become slick throughout the race.

Slicks would be nice, but another thing that is needed is technical restrictions / requirements to facilitate slipstreaming again. Today's reliance on extreme downforce means that the dirty air is bad behind the car and the 'low pressure air' that can be sat in for slip streaming is too close.

If standard, low downforce rear wings were introduced, then the dirty air would not be so bad and the low pressure area could be just right for slip streaming. Even allowing venturi tunnels again as they don't cause as bad dirty air but would allow teams to maintain downforce and thus cornering speed.

Slipstreaming would allow passing on straights, or even people running close behind to save fuel. Slicks would allow good cornering grip and thus passing there.

If cars were regularly passing in corners and straights, I might manage to watch a GP without getting up to check my email 10 times and spending half of it thinking of other things I could be doing!

A standard rear wing, slicks and wide cars would certainly turn my head in the direction of F1 again.

And plus, with all the problems of the grooves being worn out and the whole tyre being possibly illegal after the race, why dont they just bring back slicks, make the tyres narrower, so that the actual amount of tyre on the road is the same as the grooved ones.

I'd be happy if they just cut down the number of elements on the wings, bring back slicks, and get rid of the traction control. I don't think there's any need for spec parts, aside from the ECU.

Plus the slicks just look better!

Widening the cars back out to the pre-'98 specs would be nice, though.

Add steel brakes and manual boxes to the slicks and you create opportunities to pass.

Sunday was pathetic. The worst thing about that train is that it had no Dining Car.

Slicks or no slicks.....not much difference as teams won't be punished if their tyres at the end of races are all worn out without any trace of thread.

Just look at the Michelin runner's front tyres in Canada....they didn't even change the front tyres throughout the whole race distance.

Let's get out the old list of what we want back and what may help passing:

Slicks
Manual gearboxes
No TC/LC and any other driver aids
Standard rear-wings
Steel brakes
Wider cars
Standard electronics

etc, etc...

I honest to god can't believe that the wiliams and renault tires where "legal" in any interpretation of that rule when they came off the car...bring back slicks and stop insulting your audience by just nodding your head
