Hamilton had new tyres after the second red flag of the first session. Not brand new, but scrubbed in. I believe Jimenez had the same. Soderberg ran new rubber in the second session so I am not impressed yet. Most of the field will run new tyres in this last session. Let's see how it all shakes out after that.

Good one Freddie,
looks like the weather is going to stay the same over the weekend so it is shaping up to be a good race, maybe 6th race 6th different winner. |

I too believe Hamilton had new or nearly new tyres in the first session. Lloyd, irritatingly, has car problems again, so the set-up work they were planning for the 2nd session was wasted. If they can fix it by the last session, it should be a bit more representative. However, I'm not convinced that any of the Motaworld drivers have found a set-up that is right for this track.
Fortec, as always, have their 2 cars right up there (the other 2 cars never quite there) and they seem to have their set-ups pretty well bang on straight out of the box wherever they go. Got to hand it to them (the swines ) However, I'm impressed with Manor. Their set-up seems really good here, with reports saying it allows Hamilton to pull more revs than others and thus change up far earlier (not so much that it could be different gear ratios). Presumably the same for Jiminez. But it puzzles me that, if they have such a good set-up, and Hamilton and Jiminez put in the same times, why doesn't Jiminez (a 2002 FRenault champion) perform like this on all the other circuits? He and Hamilton were all but identical in testing here last time. I really don't quite understand. Do they not use the same set-ups as each other at other tracks? As always, in testing, the tyre situation isn't known yet (if at all) and, as Freddie says, most if not all drivers will be saving new tyres for the one remaining session. |

It's Mediums (gears) I believe at Rockingham so if Hamilton was running Shorts he would run out of revs on the straight. As you know, you can only squeeze so much out of that engine so I would suggest it is set-up. The last session will be interesting. |

105 reminded me, team jva were only running 2 cars today, charlie hollings and vas calasan, so they've lost the peruvian guy too. any ideas why or do i have to put my investigating hat on?
to be honest, from where i was sat (which is exactly the same place as everyone else will be come the weekend, since the views at rockingham are so great), lewis didn't look like he was on it any more than everyone else. maybe he was a bit less hit and miss than everyone else, i don't know. you could tell who was lifting at the chicane in the clios (wusses in that series, you know who you are, as do the raving loonies who just lob the car at the kerbs and save the resulting accident), but i kind of forgot to listen for the formula renaults. |

It may bear repetition, but at the chicane, split times showed no-one with any advantage there. Hamilton Lloyd Conway Rossiter all within a couple of thousandths of each other. Seems the entry is more important to lap time, the exit to your opportunity to overtake at the follwing left-hander. Didn't matter whether you took it in 5th or 6th either because there was hardly any braking there. That wasn't where the time differences emanated.

Did anyone know why Glew wasn't there, by the way? And did Charlie have his car then?
