Riley & Scott's in Europe
Why is it that no team outside America ever got the R&S to work in Europe . The only good showing was in Kyalami a few years ago when SMG beat Dyson

R&M also had a win (Monza 2000) and a handful of top three finishes with their R&S-Judd in 2000/1. Otherwise, thinking back to some of the other European R&S efforts, Rafanelli's original BMW programe was plagued by unreliability (mostly engine-related from memory), and I seem to remember most of the others (Conrero, RWS) having trouble finishing races as well- the most recent, Simpson Engineering, only raced a couple of times anyway

I forgot about those wins ..... didnt Rafanelli get a win somewhere too ? What I really mean is that SMG never really got the car to work well , and I never saw a MK III doing a good job at Le Mans except a passable attempt from doyle Racing in 1996 . Its just the car never seemed to work well on this side of the atlantic . My favourite car though

And Dyson shoulda/woulda won that race at Kyalami had they not been mandated to use faulty FIA-approved refueling equipment.

The Rafanelli R&S with its upgrades was probably the most advances "A model", but the BMW engine proved to be a disappointment; when fitted with a Judd V10 by the Blieninger team, it was pretty quick but the team was unfortunately underfunded. They were ALMS "almost-regulars" in 1999/2000.

That's the one - although it will probably have some version of the Intersport red and blue by then.

Raffy showed up at Sebring in '99 with a Judd V10-powered R&S with modified bodywork. It qualified on the front row, led for the first several laps, and set fastest lap (Enge). They raced for the rest of the season in ALMS, won at Atlanta in April, but had horrid luck for the rest of the season. I seem to remember their Yokohama tires blowing at least once every race.
Pole Team got bodywork modifications from Raffy and modified their own R&S for the 2000 season. They started the season at Sebring, and prolly had their best race at the Nurburgring, where Norman Simon diced with JJ Lehto for the lead of the race in the rain. Those amazing Pirelli rain tires again! (recall Naspetti's qualifying in the wet at PLM last weekend - 2nd in GTS on Pirellis) |
