Kit Car Question
Is there a kit using (fwd) Escort MK3 running gear? I can't find one.

the quantum was based on fiesta, so you can use major assemblies from your mk3 in one

Quantum can be found at www.quantumcars.co.uk
There was a Ferrari look-a-like (Didn't actually look much like....) based on the XR3i but it thankfully isn't around anymore. There was also a rather nice GT style car under development but I'll have to go hunting for info on that one.... Why Mk3 Escort, do you have one in need of TLC that you're particularly attatched to? The reason for asking is that it's generally thought best to choose the kit and then find the donor or parts supply rather than letting the donor dictate the kit. At todays prices, after all, the donor is not the most expensive part so why restrict your choice? Let us know what you decide to go with. Last edited by Bluebottle; 14 Mar 2004 at 18:10. |

no, the reason for the escort is cost and convenience; it's my mate's car and it's off the road in need of welding. There's nothing wrong with the oily bits, so I was just thinking out loud as to what could be done. it would be a pity to throw it away. I guess i was imagining something functional, a truck or buggy-type thing, like a citroen mehari, maybe even a Locost.
I'm not that mad on the Quantum, shape is a bit clumsy to me. |

Shame really, it sounds like an ideal donor, I don't know why there arn't more kits that use them! The Quantum would be a bad idea anyway as you would still need to find a Fiesta for the dash and other interior bits and pieces.
If you fancy a challenge, I know that there was a Dutton Sierra (Mk2 Escort based utility/van thing) which was rebuilt using Mk3 bits!! |

Anyone got a spare Onyx Firefly kit? That takes Panda parts - there's even a 4x4 version!

The Firefly is still around under a different name- I've only seen a few of them , don't know if anyone has built one from the 4x4 Panda but that would be fun...
