BTCC @ Brands Hatch

British Touring Car Championship Series Director Alan Gow has today announced that the BTCC’s Brands Hatch race meeting on 21/22 August will now be staged on the venue’s shorter Indy circuit and not the full-length Grand Prix circuit as originally intended.

Alan Gow commented: “This decision has been taken at the insistence of the circuit owner, and despite my best efforts to retain our use of the GP circuit.

“The circuit owner believes it will be in his best interests to reserve its use for other activities, rather than allowing Britain’s premier championships to race on that track. This change is not solely to the BTCC round, as I believe other major British championships have also been moved off their planned useage of the GP circuit.”

TOCA Press Release.

What 'other activities' does JP have in mind? Housing?

The GP Loop has a limited licence and so it remains to be seen which meetings JP decides to allow use of.

What other championships are there that would be allowed to use the GP Loop?

Is JP thinking of turning the loop into a seperate circuit and run 2 meetings at once?

Please see my post above, but normally F3/GT's, some Caterham races and of course WSB and BSB use the GP loop.

Both BSB rounds are on the Indy circuit.

HSCC meeting uses the GP loop. The problem also surrounds a lack of PA system on this part of the track, and the feeling is that spectators want to see all the action around the Indy circuit. There is also a demand for seperate test days for the various TOCA support formulae, which would eat into the 24 days usage.

To answer the earlier question. Britcar are using the Grand Prix circuit this weekend.
