The Winston Cup patch baffles me. I wonder why it was not changed on ALL team uniforms.

The official story is that he has several uniforms hanging in his trailer and uses a couple of old ones for testing sessions. On race day he took out the wrong one.
See www.jayski.com. What the real reason is I dunno  I bet Nextel weren't too happy though.
