Throttle blippers for clutchless downshifts
Our recent Electro pneumatic paddle shift system thread got me to thinking so I quickly sketched up a pneumatic system for shifting gears on a motorcycle 'box.
Easy enough to do full throttle, clutchless upshifts, the gear up paddle need only activate a spark cut when pressed to take the stress out of the 'box's shafts whilst the gear's banged in. However clutchless downshifts are a different story; I need some kind of throttle blipper to match engine revs during the shift. Does anyone make these things for throttle bodies not equipped with fly-by-wire? A quick Google didn't reveal anything obvious. |

Throttle kickers are fairly common when using anti-lag systems on turbocharged engines. Try this link for some help.

Yeah, you can use solenoids, but then you have to go and find one that's big enough and strong enough to do the job and then you've got to work out the switch.
If you're talking pnuematics already, think vaccum operated plungers, some cars use these sorts of things for opening a second set of throttle plates (think toyota 4AGE) or even idle up on aircon. These have been designed for the job, can't go wrong. Just gotta figure out how to drive them. |

Steve Broughton from SBD has already done this on his OMS sprint car , but has taken it to the automatic stage so all upshift and downshifts are automatic inc throttle blips on the down change. IIRC he has used a pneumatic system for the gearchange.

Talk to proshift.co.uk as they have already done this.

Ive seen the proshift installation of the gearchange actuator ,but how does it blip the throttle on the downshift?
