Dyson to Michelins for 2005...

it was confirmed today that Dyson has switched to Michelins for 2005... could be a very good move for Dyson as they will be on a level playing field with Champion rubber wise.

now if Dyson could just talk to RML and ask how they can get their B01/60s to be as reliable as the RML car...

This is very good news indeed! They will be even more competitive in qualifying next year. Several times this year James Weaver complained about the Goodyears not coming up to temperature quick enough. They will also be able to double stint when needed.

One of Goodyear's last major non spec racing motorsports adventures gone. It says something when people like Corvette and Dyson, who have very strong Goodyear links, switch to Michelins.

Did Dyson meanwhile confirm to keep the B01/60 ?
An LMP1-B04/40 would be definetly the car to beat the Audis - and it would be an option valid for some years!

I have heard Dyson say enough times he is going to Le Mans and then something comes up and its "We'll go next year" They were supposed to go with the R&S MKIIIC initally. At Daytona in 2001 Speedvision ran a segment on the new MKIIIC and how Dyson had plans to go to Le Mans with the car, and then a few minutes later they asked Rob about it and he said "Oh, I don't think we'll go thsi year, the guys are loaned out to Bentley". He was supposed to go wtih the Lola in 03, and put it off to 04, and then put it off again...

I'm a huge Dyson fan, I'm just saying if you don't know if you go or not, don't say you do and year after year get the fans hopes up and then cancel it.

am I wrong in thinking Dyson has never been to LM? What a shame if that's true.

Good move to Michelin, and I'd personally love to see Dyson machinery at LM next year, where it looks like they'd have an honest shot at the overall win.

Many many smaller American teams have made the journey (Intersport comes to mind, even for the 1000km of LM last Nov.) so I really think Dyson could make it...although come to think of it, I bet Rob would want everything to be perfect before going so that he had the best chances of winning.

He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to go to LM just to say he went.

ok my stream of consciousness rant is over, sorry guys..

Cheers

He went there as a driver in 1986. Chris drove well for RfH this year but a Dyson Racing entry has not been to Le Mans. I think they had an invitation accepted in 03, but of course they didn't go.

Dyson has confirmed that he will run the B01/60s again next year, and that is the right decision. The performance penalties that the old LMPs will experience in the LMES and Le Mans won't be enforced in the ALMS, therefor the B01/60 would be faster than the B05/40 next year in the ALMS. as for 2006, the B05/40 would be a logical next step for the Dyson boys.

If AER get their long distance motor working over the winter break, this car could be a legit winner both speed and reliability wise.

I dont think Goodyear has any sportscar racing tires save SCCA GT-1/AGT next year. GA has switched to Hoosiers...

I guess Goodyear would rather have stockcars and NHRA...maybe theres some money there?
