Project Blueprint 2005
Could anyone tell me if all teams have to adhere to the Project Blueprint rules this season, or are there still concessions for Holden in 2005?
Will Holden teams running the VZ still be allowed to use the 18Deg engine. |

I would suggest the Holden teams can STILL run the 18 degree, even with a VZ.

Hopefully they all should go to the new spec... It's only TKR, Tasman and HMS...? I think and Tasman are trying to get more competitive so I guess they would have new engines, TKR is supposed to have some sort of new car and HMS surely must finally go to a proper fleet of genuine VZs, it's not like they are underfunded!

Auroras will be compulsory I believe.
As far as I know, Tasman are doing there own this year, TKR are getting theirs from PMM and KRT will be getting theirs through the HMS jungle. Are Perkins really going to be doing engines for PWR though or was that just another off season folly? |

Auroras for all in 2005... VZ or VY bodyshape... same result...
Where the risk exists is in the swap of the Symbolites from 18 degree VX to 23 degree Aurora.... HRT has had ZERO luck with these engines, either their driveability, their installation, and their impact on the chassis balance.... ... I would wonder then, whether PWR has been too clever by half.. by accessing the Perkins Way.. whether the development cycle has been shortcutted.... |

....and to think that PMM and TKR have just secured the 23 degree/Aurora engine guru from Dynamik...... Could we see PMM and TKR finish ahead of HRT, KRT, and close to PWR in 2005?

The Ford teams would rather use a good engine

Wasn't it the Holden Teams that wanted this new engine?
It has to make you wonder about the HMS Empire. They are supposed to the, ducks guts when it comes to V8supercars and yet 2 years into project blueprint and they still have dramas getting HMS engines to all teams under its banner. Then again there were all the ownership dramas, the TEGA witch-hunt, pressure of ownership, and simple bad luck that caused the delay in the engines and getting full blueprint cars into the field. I also read in another forum, some of the posters put the poor performances down to a certain HMS team in 2004 as a test year for the rest of Holden. Let’s hope in 2005 that something more than a snickers is satisfying to the fans. |

RHY, The Aurora has more potential than the 18 degree, hence why they wanted it...but the 18 degree has had more than 10 years development, it was always going to take time to develop the Aurora to that level!!!

Mr Fogarty seems to have unearthed a clanger in his weekly column... it seems PWR intend running VX engines in their cars until the "3rd or 4th" round of the series... where they will switch over to the Perkins Aurora powerplants....
I thought the Holden runners were obliged to run Aurora from the season opener???? |

This is interesting.
I am sure TEGA will allow this to happen, what gain could PWR have using an old engine, where the HMS unit is oh so much better. Maybe there are still dramas in producing crankshafts in the USA. I would suggest in future when HMS need a new engine, TEGA should allow 3 - 4 years for development so that Holden and HMS are not behind the 8 ball and give Ford another advantage with an engine package they have been using since 93. Excluding the switch from lightweight components, what if any were the changes required to the Ford engines under Blueprint?
From memory BP standardised stroke, valve size. Were these sizes based on the then current Ford rod length/crank throw etc and valve size? Of course, if Holden required a few years grace for developing there engines, then surely Ford should have got one at the beginning of the V8 era, but if memory serves Ford did quite nicely in the first V8 season Last edited by Conrod Kieron; 26 Jan 2005 at 02:03. |
