Vasser's 2004 Season
So what did you think of Vasser's 2004 season? Here's some data for reflection, but stats are never the whole picture.
Start/Finish Long Beach - 10/16 Monterrey - 7/12 Milwaukee - 8/4 Portland - 9/8 Cleveland - 10/5 Toronto - 11/2 Vancouver - 15/10 Elkhart Lake - 3/8 Denver - 12/17 Montreal - 11/8 Laguna Seca - 9/17 Las Vegas - 2/5 Australia - 8/12 Mexico City - 4/5 Average Qualifying Position: 8.5 Average Finishing Positoin: 9.2 CC's website has been doing a series of articles on the top 10 in the 2004 standings. I've quiet enjoyed reading them: http://www.champcarworldseries.com/N...le.asp?ID=8690 On a side note an interesting quote from Vasser @ TO: "Man, these street races are a blast." |

4 good races and 3 other solid ones - the other half were disappointing.
That is based purely on results - performance may be different. |

I'd say Jimmy had a fairly strong season - certainly those results don't show as positive a picture as his performances on the track merited. He's definitely got something left in him, and it's not a foregone conclusion that da Matta will outperform him.

Those stats are indicative of a great driver on a fledgling team.

There is no doubt that the PKV cars were not up to speed last year. I think that Jimmy's season was ok, but I did expect more from him even though the team was pretty new.

With the way Salo performed in his couple of stints in '03, i figured at the start of '04 that Vasser had the material to be competitive. Imo his results were a bit dissapointing. The duel with da Matta will show if he still has what it takes. My opinion? I think his best days are long gone.
