Zonta in for Ralf???

Just turned live timing on, and Zonta is listed as being in the #17 car, but on the news only half an hour ago Ralf said he would be driving the race.

Ralf out Zonta in for the USGP

Just saw this on the feed from Formula1.com live timing.

Hope Ralf is ok. 2 bad accidents in the same place two years in a row?

That can't do his psyche any good.

3 seasons on the bounce now that Ralf has had to miss a GP due to an major accident, not good news for him at all.

yeah, surprising. How come? Yesterday's comments were not showing anything like that.... And I don't think he has any problems from the accident, as we'd have heard.... I for one was surprised

He would have been passed by the medical delegate, but has decided to pull out as a precaution.

bad news for him anyway. I don't think this "habbit" will help him find a better team.

He has a multi-year contract with Toyota - I don't think he's looking for another team.

Very bad luck for Ralf, especially as this crash was in no way his fault. Last night everyone seemed confident that he would be fine for the race. What's the situation regarding engines, considerign that Zonta may have ran higher revs with the third car on Friday? Will he be using that, or the engine Ralf was using?

I wonder if he will now also be 'rested' for France to give Panis a comeback in front of his home crowd and boost French interest? That could eb just the thing to sell any remaining tickets, especially as Toyota are competitive now.

Zonta will use Ralf's engine, Boots.

I think Ralf will be back for France - Panis is quite comfortable with his retirement from race action.

Toyota are interested in whats best for them, not filling seats.

So Ralf won't have completed a full season back to 2002 then.

Why?

The crash wasn't Ralf's fault - and Toyota would be fully involved in the discussions about whether he raced or stood down.

The crash was not his fault... so Toyota cannot blame him for not completing a 'whole' season....

Panis was scheduled to be in the third car at France.... i dont think this will change..

I was under the impression that Michelin immediately apologised after those two tyres had blown up (on Zonta's and Ralf's car), and that they immediately ordered all teams to change the tyre pressure.

Just like last year. In both cases, it was a tyre exploding during that corner.

I wonder if they will give Zonta a fresh engine as a precaution, considering how hard Ralf hit the wall?

This is becoming a habit for Ralfy! Poor man, he may be frequently underwhelming but he deserves a bit more luck than this!

Seriously, that was what happened last year? I don't remember the tyre exploding. Are you sure?

Poor Ralph. He can't take a trick at this track. He deserved to make amends for last season's accident. And to have a tyre explode on the fastest corner on the circuit is just plain bad luck.

Good luck to Zonta though. Hopefully the tyre problems are ironed out?

BTW Does anyone know why FIA medico's didn't allow him to race. Is it injury or concussion or what??
