Best club race ever?
Those who saw the 2nd Mighty Mini race on Sunday at Brands must rank it right up there in the "best ever" stakes surely! There was plenty of outbraking, leaning, "kissing" etc, etc but nothing to over the top. Each driver giving just enough for the other guy to play with-but only just. Charlie Charman came 2nd by a gnats whilst Simon "Simes" Wood won one of the best Mighty Mini races to date - well done both!

One of the best club series was the Caterham Roadsports 1400cc in 1997! Some amazing incidents and close racing. 1997 was also a good for various series. All seem to have gone down in numbers since 1997!

Snapper Baz - I think you said that you went to Croix - did you take any pics of car no 80 in the TRC races (Black GpN Ashtray) - I've got pics of all the other rounds so far (even in the tyre wall at Lydden) but not of Croix Thanks! |

I can't remember that 850 race although if it was a mid-70s Brands winter clubbie I would have been there - perhaps it was even longer ago? My personal "best ever" was in the same era - a 1-litre Special Saloon race in summer '73, on the day the Tour of Britain passed through Brands. It was a Kent Messenger round, but with a depleted all-Mini grid (no Homewood or Calcutt Imps) and produced a 5-car battle very similar to the one you describe. From memory the protagonists were Terry Attoe, Tony Apcar, John Schneider and John Walsh, plus Phil Spurling in his Miglia car and I think Terry eventually won it.

The first ever BOSS Formula race at Donnington Park in 1995 was a classic!

Can't really call BOSS true club racing can you?
I can think of many great races in the "Winter Warmers - GT's" back in the early 90's. One thing for it, there will always be lots of contention as to what was best. Was it a single seater race, sportscars, saloons, modifieds, production, etc... The Mini Miglia series still produces some of the best "club" racing ever. Will Peter Baldwin ever retire? (hope not!!) |

No No No; its got to be Jim Clark and Co first racing Ford Galaxies round Brands in 1959 I think. I can get a vision, just, I was 3 and hung over Druids fence by a nappy. Wow, can still here the noise. No catch fencing then, just a picket fence. Memories got me hooked for today...

Blimey, that's a tough one!
Saw a great FF1600 race at Mallory a couple of weeks ago, just the job for the post Le Mans depression! Gavin Wills won comfortably, but the battle behind was absolutely superb, lot's of outbreaking, locked wheels etc., but no contact, nice and clean. http://www.ff1600.co.uk/index.php?id=420 The photos aren't half bad either! |
