Lexmark Indy 300 - Car Speed Comparison

I just read on the official Indy 300 website that the program will include on Thursday a speed comparison between a Champcar, V8 supercar and a road car. Just wondering if this has been done at the Surfers event before
? (I'm pretty sure it wasn't on the schedule last year).

Chucky should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Yes, I think it was a Perkins Commode, a Honda Integra and a Reynard-Honda.

Thanks, do you recall how much of a headstart the Integra and the commodore were given? Also was it shown on the tv broadcast?

It was on TV, and ot must have been the year they had the Gillette "Young Gins" race in the Honda's as that's why they had one for this.

I can't recall the head start but it was huge, like 30 sec for the commodore and much more for the Honda.

Cool, I was only planning on going to the track on Saturday and Sunday, but I might have to drop in on Thursday to check this out.

I can't remember where or when but in one comparison Moffat was in a BMW 3 series - then there was a Supercar and finally a open wheeler (may have been a F1) - it was quite entertaining and the open wheeler won by a fraction , I think Moffat in the BMW started his lap about 60 seconds before the open wheeler - BTW it wasn't at Indy .

I'm surprised by the 30 second gap - isn't the champcar lap record only about 15 seconds faster than the v8s?

They are, in fact, about 20 seconds a lap faster from a flying start but owing to the standing start, they needed the extra time to get off the line..

Geez, even an F3 is faster than a Supercar around there!

It was at the AGP in 2001.

These speed comparison's have had their day for the time being surely. They crop up at the AGP every few years, we had one at Bathurst last year and so on, run a proper race instead.
