Bryan Degerlund should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Rod Blackstone

Due to receive a Special Achievement for 50 years marshalling at the BRSCC SE Dinner-Dance last Saturday, Rod tragically was taken from us on Saturday morning.

Rod, flagging on post 24 (pits entrance) at Brands Hatch, was a permanent ficture, whether for a full International or just him and a course marshal at a clubbie.

He was a mentor and trainer to many who have gone on to "higher" roles and will be sorely missed.

Sincerest condolences to Rod's wife amd family,

RIP old friend,

Bryan

That's very sad Bryan. Most of us who attend Brands knew Rod and I'm sure we'll all miss him.

RIP sir.

Echoed in full....

Always a well flagged post - One that you just "know" is telling you right...

Condolences to all who worked at Post 24 and of course to all his loved ones...

RIP

Rod's funeral will take place on 13th December at Medway Crematorium at 1.00pm

Rod's wife, Barbara, would welcome any marshal or driver who wishes to attend.

To Barbara and the rest of Rods family, on behalf of the British Motorsport Marshals Club, I extend sincere condolances. Our thoughts are with you all at this a very sad time.

I only marshalled with Rod once - at the Festival this year. A genuinely nice man with a great sense of humour. I'm desperately sorry to hear this. Please pass on our condolences.

I can only repeat, as Chair-South East Region BMMC Stephens sentiments above.; Rod will be sorely missed on the Brands Marshalling scene. I.personally, on many occasions officiated as an Observer on Post 24, and never had to worry about what was happening on 'the Tower'; I knew it was in very good hands. My last memories were of Rod, having been asked to ensure he was picked up from 'on-Post' after each day off the A1 GP Meeting, something I was very pleased to do, by one of the Minibuses coming off the GP loop. I am sure Rod will keep the Pit Lane open for us when we ALL join him at that Race Course in the Sky!!

I am sat here not really knowing what to say. Rod always had time to talk to you at signing on or recall tales about most of the Brands Marshals both old and new. Rod will be sorely missed and post 24 will a lonlier place without him.

May you rest in peace Rod.
