Colour Schemes....
OK, the car is in bits all over the garage. The bonnet is currently a big lump of body filler and the paint job is all gone for a burton. So should I try and reconstruct it, or go for something different?
The car started in British Racing Green and I was at the back of the field, so I don't really want to go there again. Then I painted it red to copy my team mate and had a lot of fun (lucky colour for me) but then another D-type started racing in a similar colour and it all got a bit confusing for the commentators. So I put the white corners on (avatar) and got a very mixed reaction. Some said that it was very patriotic, while others wondered if I'd joined the National Front. Now my team mate has painted his bright yellow, but I'm reluctant to follow (bit girly if you ask me). So what to go for next? I have a bit of a hankering for black, but that's only really cos it won't show the oil leaks from the motorhome I use to tow it. Any suggestions? |

Well, a yellow car is always better for pictures.
Why not blue as the main colour and yellow (in reference to your teammate) as an additional one? The cars in my team are all blue-yellow and we always get good comments on the colourscheme. And lots of pictures in the press. Bright green? |

I tried blue and silver last year when I completely rebodied the car....
Not exactly lucky as I stuffed it hard into the tyres at Riches first race and failed to finish in 7 of the 8 championship rounds I entered.... No sure what to do this year.... |

You'll understand if I don't go for blue and silver then.
Nice thought on the blue and yellow, but aren't those the colours of someone's national flag? Norway or somewhere up there? Know what you mean about yellow being photogenic for a car.... I think that's why my team mate painted his that colour. Pain in the bum in the summer though... every insect for miles thinks its a bloody great buttercup Bright green is an interesting idea. |

Going by the avatar, I'd say keep it like that. It looks superb.

For what it's worth I think Black and Silver (a la WSR MG's in BTCC a while back) would look excelent on your car. Either way dont worry, it would take a fairly bad pint job to make a great looking car like that look bad.

Black & Yellow with Red highlights...sounds a bit girlie, but if you search for Caterpillar Nascars or the Caterpillar Truck racing liveries...my personal opinion is the the red highlight between yellow and black looks superb!

Never mind confusing the commentators with the same colour as your team mate, spare a thought for us flag mashals! What ever colour you choose to paint your car, please put a distinctive mark/colour/design on the front. There is nothing worse trying to blue flag you when you all look the same!!! Not to say embarrassing when you blue the race leader!!! I think it looks 'distinctive' as it was last year!

Joyce, he's too bloody fast anyway, just keep giving him the blue flags, or even a nice black one, he responds to the latter even when they are for someone else.

dtype,
Mine is black and silver. Forget your "it won't show the oil leaks from the motorhome". On black every smear, every speck of dust, every repair, every crack shows up like it was spotlit. Silver is great, but every other road car is silver these days. How about a nice bright blue? Pageant Blue is good. John Last edited by JohnD; 12 Jan 2006 at 18:40. Reason: spelling! |

pmoloney... nice colour scheme, but my car doesn't have a straight line anywhere. I'm pushing my luck with a simple cross (I would have gone for a Union Flag but it's not only passe, but too bloody difficult) so I think the highlight line would get lost in the curve of my wings

JohnD, didn't know that about black. Is that because of using a light coloured primer/undercoat? Although bright blue sounds interesting. Got a link to something painted "Pagent Blue"? |

dtype,
No, it's not the undercoat showing through! (How dare you Sir!) A really deep black just doesn't hide even a speck of dust, and a ripple in the bodywork looks worse than it is. That's why chauffeurs always carry chammies and polish! Pageant Blue is indentical to the original French Racing Blue. That may enamour it to you, or not. You could Google Image for Pageant Blue, but the colour is not shown consistently - on the second page is a bus that is more purple than blue. My old race Vitesse was in PB: if that links for you. Maybe British Leyland Pageant Blue is a lucky colour when used on its own....

Current favorite btw is keep the Cross of St. George and update it by adding "ENGLAND 2006" on the red stripe You can take that as an anwer to the Fench Blue as well JohnD... although, worryingly, you aren't the only one to suggest that |

When I repainted my old chevy JCB yellow I was a bit concerned it was over the top but once signwritten in contrasting black I think the end result is quite good and a lot of people have commented on it and I think it looks good in pictures whereas my black car really needs something to brighten it up (any suggestions I have full graphic producing capabilities, would be appreciated). A colour scheme I really like and two colurs I think go really well was the Gulf racing colours especially the metallic blue version with orange.

Why not do the opposite with the black one Al?
Use yellow (with a white undercoating to keep the yellow bright) on black, I've seen a car like that not long ago and it looked great. |

Now silver on black, that's another good one Al.
