STR launch

STR will launch their (?) car next week.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/56652

Strangely, they say that their new car may not be finished! Exactly how long does it take for the paint to dry?

hmmmmm, interesting...

the very unofficial statement that i read somewhere in cyberspace goes like this:

"the STR launch will probably be next week sometime. It may or may not have any drivers present, and they may or may not be anything resembling actual f1 drivers, or anything resembling the drivers that will drive for us this season. However, Gerhard drove in f1 not so long ago, and he said he'd probably be able to make it, so just take pictures of him if he's there, and see what you can do with some liberal photoshopping...

Oh, and we dont exactly know where we're going to hold the launch yet, but we do know that should you bring your camera to wherever it will be, you will most likely be able to take pictures of Christian Horner, red bull merchandise, and most likely we will have some pretty girls there to distract you from reporting that we dont actually have anything ready yet...

Oh and finally, we dont know if we will actually have any cars at the launch. BUT, should you have any queries with regards to what the cars will look like, please call either Sir Frank or Colin K, as they seem to have a very good understanding of how our car is turning out, and how it will look (maybe ever better than us!) and so just ask them....

see you there"

They have to fit the Ferrari, that may require a quite major redesign.

I would imagine they could launch a painted one yes.

I would imagine that the engines are of very similar dimensions.Maybe some of the external bits and pieces require a little work, gearbox, radiators, exhausts, hydraulic pumps, that sort of thing.I wouldn't have thought that the chassis would need a major redesign.

I would be very surprised at this late date to hear that they're going to make any driver changes because someone would've leaked any driver change by now, and it's getting very late for them to make a change.

You would have thought that the Ferrari engine would have fitted nicely in the STR seeing as it was the slated powerplant for the RBR until the last minute.

The last minute? They were planning on Renault since about halfway through the year.

I do. Seeing as the Ferrari contract was with Red Bull, and not Red Bull Racing, theoretically it was their choice who the engines went to, not Ferrari's.

Same deal as the RB3 really. Since its technically being built by Red Bull and not Red Bull Racing, then its STR's for the taking. And we know STR are confident their plans will go ahead for that, and under far less controversial terms as the Ferrari engine contract swap.

It was 100% certain one of the two teams would get the Renault and they would have been fairly confident of that being RBR.

It certainly would have made sense to design the car round the Renault data from the beginning.

Have you read the contract? Anything else interesting in there you'd care to share?

Hmm whilst RBR are being a bit more serious it seems Toro Rosso are still happily silly

STR Launch

Just heard from those strange voices coming from a hovering space ship that their drivers are Tony George and AJ Foyt Sr.

I havent read any contracts, but that particular detail has been spread around the media quite often though. It still stands though, STR are taking a massive risk trying to run the RB3 next year, but by their reading of the rules its possible. Just like Red Bull by their reading of the rules felt they could swap around the Ferrari engine contract to STR, and hence probably had no ill feelings designing the RB3 around the Renault engine from early on.

Any news yet!

All I've heard so far is that Berger is saying that the STR is a very different car compared to the RB3.We shall see.

Interesting that he says "A lot of stuff is different". Basically confirming it's the same base chassis, with different bits on it.

Yeah, there's the paint, a couple of stickers and in an effort to be even more confusing than last year the livery is just a picture of last years car.

Apparantly they didn't get any track time today because of a red flag at the end of the session. It'll hit the track tommorow.
