I'm sure that, after watching some of the in-car footage, some of the drivers weren't changing gear manually. I think that it was Heidfeld in particular that I noticed it. Anyone else know?

i ask because i was using my non-existant spanish, knowledge of italian, and babelfish to translate saint fernando's website, and he was talking about his clutch going, and having to change gear manually, which on the downshift apparently isn't the easiest thing to do. mind you, apparently after that went the whole car failed gradually, and just fell apart in the pits...
nick heidfeld was definitely up to something. he/the gearbox was shifting so early he must have lost so much power on the straights. |

Don't most of them use a semi-automatic, where the gears go up automatically, but the driver has to change down? Or is it the other way round?!

i thought the semi bit referred to the action, in that all you have to do is press a button, and it does it.

I could be talking rubbish here.. but I think that all the upshifts are pre-programmed into the cars computer, depending on the point in the track that is ideal for the up-shift to take place...Maybe one of our resident tech heads can help on this point.
