The twin 150-mile qualifying races, the Gatorade Duel at Daytona, on Thursday are going to be wild

good stuff so far
maybe this is its own thread but Knaus' suspension and NASCAR's inconsistent penalties and lack of innovative approaches to things really hurts more than it helps the 48 rear window was raised- it did not fit the template- ok fine and qualifying position 42 instead of 5th. this seems fair, but a suspension? and a list of his previous 'transgressions' like using unapproved clips and harness are all bogus(from previous years) what is NASCAR's problem, fines and suspensions to crew chiefs- but they nary suspend drivers for rough driving... |

Knaus almost got suspended last year after Las Vegas for the car being too low after the race and he did get a fine and the team lost points. As for the other small stuff I guess it all adds up. You break the rules you get in trouble. Plus there is always the NASCAR catch all of "not in the best interest of competition," which they can use for about anything.
I agree that rough driving should be punished to some extent, but only if it is obvious that it was rough driving. That way accidents don't get punished unfairly. J.D. |

I guess for Knaus, its hard to be on the cutting edge of technology in NASCAR, when everything u try is killed by the officals. thats got to suck!

A "link"
The Daytona 500 was not always the start of the NA$CAR season. See THIS post on my Motorsports History & Trivia thread.

Only nine or so hours left until action resumes at Daytona - I can't wait
In race 1 I think the winner will be either Tony Stewart, Dale Jr. or Denny Hamlin, and I assume they will try to stay close to each other throughout the race. In race 2 I think Jeff Gordon will be the winner - unless he runs into trouble, that is, and with Kyle "the Aggressor" Busch (yep, I felt that Kyle could use a nickname - we have way too few of those in NASCAR these days heh) in the same race you never know what might happen |
