1999 Sebring 12 Hours: Car Classes?
I was reading that wonderful piece on DSC as their run up to Sebring begins, one question comes to mind while I was reading the article. 1999 was the first year when GT-1 class become GTP car, so was the Panoz GTR-1 and that Champion Porsche 911 GT1 ran as GTP car? Or were they like the later "GARRA-spec" GT1 which were GTS cars?

According to IMSA's archive, they were classified under the prototype class.
http://www.imsaracing.net/archives/1999sebring.pdf That was the last race for the GTR-1, btw. They converted to one to an LMP in time for Road Atlanta's race in April, and the second in time for Le Mans. It was entered but did not complete a lap at Road Atlanta. |
