The 917 was driven by David Piper, not sure about the Ferrari.

i wish i'd picked up the info now...didn't think i'd get a good shot as the weather was poor, so i shot it from the pitwall on kodak film. its come out in a sort of washed out 1960's way, quite unusual...and so i'm going to get it scanned...but i need a caption first.
most amusing thing i saw was one of the old prototypes was being driven alone by one driver. when he pitted they had to take the bodywork off to get him out. he then ran in a circle around the car and got back in again...to replicate a driver change. back with the bodywork...away he went! |

I can't find a photo of a no. 40 Ferrari, but here is a picture of David Piper in the 917 at Indianapolis.

Looking at the entry list over on MB it had Sir Strling Moss down to drive one of the Aston Martin's - did he drive the car or not as I was a eating breakfast as the Legends race started......

i don't think he was there...if he was i'm sure we'd all have known about it! there was a large crowd of press following him everywhere in 2001

I heard that Moss was unable to attend, can't be certain why, but maybe health. My recollection of the Radio Le Mans explanation is not that clear.

I have no entry list with the numbers of the car... and didn't take lots of pics during the Legend race, having a talk with Kpy in the T15 grandstand...
The only thing left is this... |

S.Moss wasn't there. The drivers of the Aston Martin DBR1 were :
- Ulrich Bez (board manager of Aston Martin) on ther first pic and Peter Hardman on the second pic. - D.Piper drove the 917 - S.Moss wasn't there - the car carry the #40 was a Ford GT40 of Chris Chiles. Thierry |
