Did a lot for Ferrari during the sixties and seventies. Very high regarded. I believe his final job in F1 was technical director of Modena-Lamborgini back in 1991.

I have heard of him, don't know much tho. Apparently he was a genius, but also a madman, well, according to Niki Lauda.

Perhaps the greatest designer. Certainly amongst the best.

The remarkable thing about Forghieri was that he was the principal designer of the whole car - chassis, engine and gearbox. He was certainly the last chief engineer in F1 to be so completely involved with the entire design.

On top of that he had to do sportscars and things like F2 aswell as street cars and their engines. Its amazing he never cracked. As for Lauda-ever since that crash he has seemed to hate everyone and I read that after he left the team he starting spreading gossip about Forghieri.

From what I understood, he was not a genius himself. He was just very good at having good people working around him and then taking all the credit. He was able to organize good work teams and understand them, but sadly never gave them any credit. Was very tyrannical.

That was why he could build a whole car and in whatever category, because he himself was not actually doing it. He was a genius at putting it all together, he just did not admit it.

I have to admit that some of the F1 teams could use someone like that these days. It would sure shock them into place and maybe even save them some money along the way.
