The Other Side of Cost Cutting
Today I received an e-mail from a friend who is a manager of an R&D group with one of the F1 engine manufacturers. He asked if I would be able to place any of his staff. Since the engine freeze, his team is being axed and he and his 20 staff are looking at redundancy.
Quite sobering to see the results of decisions taken in Paris, or Montecarlo. |

I was also just reading in Autosport about Cosworth laying off 200 members of it's staff.
Of course it is sad to see people out of a job, but things change, should they be resisted 'just' to keep people in a job. |

It's not just in the engine area either. Most teams have run complete and separate test teams in recent years, but that may be about to stop. See here.
I've heard that McLaren will cut down from two test cars to one, for example. |

The number of new employees at Prodrive probably outweights all of these losses however. And Cosworth's staff aren't losing their jobs due to the engine freeze.
