Appears the car was rebadged as a F2 in 1967, the new owners took it as a Mk10

Rob is quite tall and the original roll bar was stupidly small. He had it replaced with the one still on the car, this was this feature that caught my eye in the first posting. Also the other truly unique feature of this chassis is the lower front wishbone which was meant to be antidive, not convinced on that one.”

1975- Andy sold the car to ???? in the Newcastle/ Middlesborough
area the builder guy bought the car from Liverpool.

1999 Chris Alford of Buckland U.K. sells the car on behalf of Mr Buckland to Tony Archer and the car is exported to Australia.

Whilst emptying our filing cabinets I have just found a letter from a man called Roger Williams from Brill Buckinghamshire asking for info about the Francis / Moss Special that was built about 1953/4.
This letter was from March 1986, it was an enquiry to my late boss, Jack Moss, asking the whereabouts of the original radiator surround from the car or the alloy one that replaced it in the early 1950's presumably when Jack & Alex Francis built/ rebuilt it.
Roger Williams had bought the remains of the car in 1969 from Jack whilst Four Ashes Garage were at Dorridge, where the Sytner Porsche garage is now.
Any one know if the car car still exists, with or without said radiator surround.

Roger Williams rang me about 3 or 4 years ago with some questions about the Francis / Moss Special, It was based on a HRG demonstrator, the Green car GPE 607, fitted with an ex army Mercury engine from Fletchers in Birmingham, he still owns it.
Roger asked me if I knew what the chassis number FEG1 stood for, it was easy, Furnace End Garage 1 as that was where the chassis/ car was constructed, its 1st outing may have been Prescott September 20th 1953, driven by Alex Francis, just found the program for that event before Christmas, incidentally signed by Stirling Moss & other top drivers there.
A year later Alex in the 1st Alexis car, registered JUE 234 since its rebuild above, beat Masten Gregory in the latest Ferrari at Prescott, Gregory was heard to say, as he looked at the converted HRG 'Beaten by - A Hot Rod'

An Alexis Mk17 or Mk17A was raced in British Formula Atlantic by Steve Choularton in 1971 but according to Chris's research, only two or three were built.

In North America, I don't have note of a Mk17 but there were several unidentified Alexis chassis between 1969 and 1971 that might have been Mk17s but it's rather more likely that they were Formula Fords electing to run in FB: Chuck Billington, Tony Settember and Graham Pierce all on the west coast in 1969; and Brian Weightman in Ontario in 1971.

Both Ken Crook and Dick Barker appear from August 1969 onwards with cars that are called Mk17. They appear together, so there are at least two built in 1969.
Given Alexis plating practice, which I've seen in Formula Fords, there's every chance that these two cars were Mk17/1 and Mk17/2 with 1969 build dates
They then built a third car, Mk17/1 with a 1970 build date.

Barker's 1969 car is used by Ken Sedgley early in 1970
Crook's 1969 car appears driven by Allan Taylor in 1970

This suggests that the new car (if there is one) for 1970 is the one driven by Ken Bailey early in the season. Since no more than two Alexis appear together in 1970 there's no absolute guarantee that a third car was built.

That colour scheme might be a clue, given the plate you've got

Now i have found the remains from the car of Brian Weightman from Ontario/
Canada.
He runs 1971 in Player’s Challenge Series for the Canadian Driving Championship for Formula B.
A Canadian Motorsport Bulletin, from 1971 says abouthim :
Brian Weightman runs an old updated F3 Alexis !
His chassis have the same front upper wishbones as the MK 17 FF - not the
version from the FF´s - who have a " trailing arm " versionof the upper front wishbone.
So - what type of F3 was Weightmans car ??
Any information are welcome !!!

I am restoring an Alexis Mk17 F3 chassis AM83 which has never been fitted with seat belt mounting brackets. Can anyone tell me when seat belts became mandatory?

This is an Alexis Mark 6 that was entered in the Formula 3 support event to the 1966 French Grand Prix held at Reims, France July 3,1966. It was entered by Team Alexis for Allan Taylor; he failed to qualify. Ford engine. There were 57 F3 cars entered. All I remember was that as the F3 field crested the top the back straight and funneled down into the Thillois Hairpin cars were 3,4, and 5 wide and they scattered everywhere; I think only 26 cars took the green, but everyone was so evenly matched, made for close racing.
